I laid traps and poison but nothing, the odd time we would see them in the kitchen, Eventually the 'eveidence

Re: Mice in our flat

[quote user="Caro Laithwaite VN,"]

The situation has become critical, I am hoping we are at a peak and things will start dropping. But the amount of 'evidence' I found when I was hoovering under and around the sofas yesterday frightened the life out of me! I have removed all poison from in the flat except under the sink where they come in.

Also found two dead mice yesteray! My flat now stinks of bleach!

They must all start to die soon surely - I think i read somewhere that it can take up to 3 weeks of poison feeding to kill of a colony. I just hope it doesn't smell too bad when it happens!

I am ringing the estate agents on Monday and hopefully they'll send out some professionals - the council just aren't cutting it this time!

Thanks for all the replies. We live on the third floor so no way to stop them getting in. Our block of 12 flats is attached to another MASSIVE block of well over 50.

Our neighbour did have mice a few years back but he has since got a dog and now has no problem. I am sure there are still people living below us but as I said it is London and we are famous for not speaking to the neighbours!! The oest control officer did send letter to everyon ibn the block to try and sort this for everyone but nobody replied.

The electronic plug ins, really only work to prevent the mice coming in, apparently if you already have mice you should not use them as they quickly become desensitised to them

Does anyone have any ideas about the fact that I might be attracting them by leaving the pison out as it is seemingly quite a tasty treat!!?

Re: Mice in our flat

I lived in London for 5 years and had the same problem. I friend recommended this plug you can get by which omits a sound to drive the mice away (human ears don't hear it). The sound travels through the plug and into the walls, so keeps them out. I was a bit sceptical at first but they work.

I live in the country now; the old house I live in was empty for a while before I moved in so it was full of mice. I got a plug and they left.

I got mine from Wilkinson's but im sure you will find them in other places.

Ie has anybody moved out of the other flats because if there is a flat empty and they also had a problem with meeces it could be that there is less food around for them to eat now and thats why they are taking the bait at yours

Are you a ground floor flat at all - and if so do you hare airbricks? if you do it may be worth fixing a wire mesh over them to prevent any entrance to the wall cavity - but dont block them off completely otherwise you could end up with a rot problem. I have had to do this with mine because living in a village as the autumn turns to winter if I am not careful I would end up with non rent paying lodgers!

Do any of your neighbours have a similar problem?

Best mouse traps I have found are ones called ' The big cheese' - they are plastic and very effective you just put a bit of cooking oil on the bait pad. I would say attach them to something heavy tho because if the rodent is a runner once its in the trap they are so light they will run off with them (sorry if thats a bit graphic but I would hate you buy them and then find they have gone with the first mouse)
