Obviously, a buster collar would be the first choice and I have it all ready for tonight when he isn't being supervised

Re: New and inventive ideas for preventing licking!
Poor boy!you have your handsfull there then!
I know, it is such a shame. He is so happy but just touch him and he is off. Fingers crossed we can get him sorted soon, he is keeping us up at night with it all too!

Re: New and inventive ideas for preventing licking!

Poor boy!you have your handsfull there then! Its usually a behavioural problem and preventing him from licking may just make him redirect to do a worse behaviour. It can be a form of obsessive compulsive disorder. I would take it very seriously and when medical probs have been ruled out then see a behaviourest.
Thank you

We are currently running tests as it appears to be an atopic skin disease issue, he gets very itchy and redirects the constant itching into self-trauma. He is on mountains of Piriton and a quick steroid course to try and ease the problem until we get a definate cause and can go from there.

Just pricing up and considering if immunotherapy or an Atopica trial are the best first courses of treatment! Hopefully once we make him more comfortable he will stop doing it, if that doesn't work we will go back to behaviourist visits - he has had a number of those for other problems already. Expensive boy considering he isn't insured!

He is now starting another on his bum cheek so we are having to go with a short course of steroids alongside his piriton and I have to look into allergy testing/Atopica

Re: New and inventive ideas for preventing licking!

cut a pair of old tights into shorts then place a piece of melolin over the granuloma & pop the tightshorts over. Not sure that I like them to be honest, like you say made my eyes water when first opened. It did fade quite quickly though from what I can remember. Don't know how well they would stick to fur, I stuck it to bandage and they didn't stay very well.
