Not a particularly big practice, there once was a part time qualified but as far as i know theres just been assistants from when it opened. Theres 3 full time and 1 part time now and I, (a full time) have just started training and i think the other 2 full time will be training from sept/jan. I never realised how much qualified nurses even did before i started training in Jan. All assistants get treated the same but i would love to have a qualified now to take a bit of control and show me how stuff is supposed to be done!!! having a clinical coach that is a vet is a bit tricky!

Re: Qualified to unqualified nurses in practice

I've never worked anywhere that had staff in a full nurse role that weren't either qualified or training as students..so usually 100% qualified and some students . Most places I have worked have ANA or Aux . I don't think I would fancy working somewhere that employed someone in the full nurse role that wasn't ether qualified or training but then have usually worked at places that have roles for nurses that are 100% nursing based..ie no reception etc., so it wouldn't be appropriate to have someone with no formal training unless they were starting their actual training. At my current workplace we have upwards of 35 nurses , approx 4 or 5 of whom are students, of the others 4 are DipAVN and 2 are currently working towards DipAVN, several have have a vet nursing degree either via initial qualification or via top-up. We have approximately 7 Auxillaries of whom about half have ANA or are working towards it

Re: Qualified to unqualified nurses in practice

[quote user="Dawn Seabrook"]
