Thanks Vicky, this site is so good for support in times of stress! Luckily we were given the tumble drier and it was old anyway so we won't miss it! And because we live in rented accomodation our landlady will sort out the repairs, so i'm looking on the positive sides!

Aww Shelly what idiots doing that to you! But like you say, a lot more could have been stolen and it wasn't Hopefully your insurance will cover the repair and replacement? Glad this thread has helped

I've just read this thread today and it couldn't have come at a better time! Got up this morning to find my garage had been broken into and my tumble drier had been stolen. The garage door is now hanging off and i was getting really down, but i'm going to look at the positives after reading this! There was alot more stuff in the garage that they could have stolen so i've actually been quite lucky!

not at all are you boring me - I find it really refreshing when somebody discovers stuff all by themselves

something to make you smile - a positive pointed out to me by a counselling colleague I was feeling a bit down at the time it was just after my dad died, I felt like I was struggling with quite a bit and he said he would give me a dose of my own medicine and just dropped this casually into the conversation.

'have you been to the loo this morning?'

so I said yes and wondered what the hell he was on with

'well thats a positive - so dont you be telling me what you cant do when that is better than I could manage'

Suppose that was another version of his 'quit wittering'

Sal, your advice not all that long ago is i'm sure one of the things that picked me up when i felt like i had a big dark cloud hanging over me. It is so hard to see positive in anything when you're in a negative mental state but there is always going to be a glimmer of positivity that you can grab hold of with two hands and nourish until it blossoms. Now i'm wittering so i'll shut up before i bore you all to sleep!

Definitely

Also so many times I have listened to people's hard times in counselling or read about them on here. The ones that can see a positive (any positive no matter how small) in their lives are the ones that find their way out of the bad stuff the fastest. Its not just about getting through it - its about what we learn from the experience that helps us in the future.

The ones that constantly list all the negatives well I am afraid they are the ones that get more of the same because they never look out for the positives and they never learn.And I am not a polyanna and I am certainly not perfect but I have had a very good teacher and on the occassions I have allowed myself to fall into this trap they have told me to 'quit wittering' - and that is enough to set me thinking.

You are so right Katie, that has become very clear to me over the past few years, life is full of challenges and I guess it would be pretty dull without them. Its really good to hear stories like Vicky's though, reminds me that with determination and hard work there is light at the end of the tunnel and we can all get that step closer to our goals.

The more I get older, I am realising that life is full of highs and lows and you just have to roll with the punches. It's funny when your a child, you never think of bad stuff happening but unfortunately it's life. Really happy for you hun, you sound like your doing well. We should all remember, what doesn't kill us will make us stronger, my nan used to say that to me, it's only now I realise what she was talking about.
