I've sent a letter to every practise I can get to! I had a letter back from one today saying they don't have any spaces now, but she's keeping my details for any future ones. I only sent the letters last week so it was nice of her to acknowledge me!

The practise I'm in has 4 branches all within about 15 miles so they said they do take lots of students on each time, one of them started where I am now, and she just got moved onto a placement from there! So I'm hoping that will happen to me!

I wrote a letter to the Nursing Manager too, thought it would look more professional to put it in writing than just tell her I want to!

Not long at all! It would depend on the practice really, some practices employ students to train them and then they don't have a job once qualified. Others will train them and keep them until they choose to leave, so a job might not come up for a while. Maybe give them a go in May? Def do some volunteer work if you can get it, like you say it will get your foot in the door Good luck x

Sometimes veterinary practice have animal nursing assistants who then move on to training. Most places would probably expect you to work a minimum of a year prior to starting training. So I would start writing out letters and CVs

Do you know when they would take on more students after the current ones qualify? Like is it straight away or is there a break inbetween?

I'm hoping to get some volunteer work on my days off too, just to add to my experience! Hopefully I can get some in the practise I work in, so then all the staff will know me and once theres a vacancy, I might pop into their heads! Thats my plan anyway haha!

Some SVNs will be taking their final exams in March, results come out in April so they could qualify then. If they don't pass them, i think the next ones are in June/July.
