I am currently having the same problem, i tried out of hours work but lack of sleep got the better of me and also i had to get babysitters for more days than when i was working day shifts! Im just in the process of sending out letters to practices within a 25-30 mile radius in the hope of finding a position somewhere, not sure how working so far away from home will work when the kids are at school. I did consider using these next few years to re train but my heart is in vet nursing!! hope you find something soon

I def think part time positions are few and far between and quite often they are job shares. The practice I used to work for were fantastic and several of the nurses worked part time and around school hours etc. I used to work 3 - 7pm three afternoons a week which was great until my son started school last September. I asked my boss if I could swap to mornings so I would be able to pick my son up from school. He tried very hard to accomodate me but in the end it was near impossible without upsetting everybody elses rota which neither of us wanted to do. Around the time my husband got a new job and we moved house meaning I would be a 50 min drive from work so I decided to leave. My boss was great about it and neither of us have ruled out me returning to the practice in the future. We are trying for another baby so I do worry that I am going to be out of practice for a while now. Anyway I do hope you find something soon.

next time you see a vacancy in your area would it be worth seeing if they would make it a job share position? I have known this work that way 2 people get a chance at the same job. I am part time and most of my time is spent on reception

It's a shame, and I hardly ever see part time positions advertised. You might be able to get a receptionist position - at least you'd get your leg in the door.
