Ive been locuming for nearly a year now. Ive been under an Umbrella Company, for ease more than anything, but Ive decided its time to go self-employed and really be my own boss!! (-:
Can anyone tell me of a good accountant service/insurance

Re: self employment and insurance as a locum

Hi guys - this is probably a really silly question but how do you go self employed? As in, how and where do you find work - is it just a case of checking websites and ads?

Are 'umbrella companies' just agencies that find you the jobs and then take a cut of your pay for the service?

Assuming you can find enough work is the pay much better for locuming? I have heard of nurses that can work flat out for a couple of months as a locum and then have enough money to take a couple of months off - has anyone out there found this to be true?

I really love the idea of being my own boss but am not sure I would like the uncertainty or be organised enough to sort myself out!!

Re: self employment and insurance as a locum

Thankyou very much..can't wait to be self employed and in control of my money! Just awaiting last payment from practice through my umbrella company before I can leave them...grr

Re: self employment and insurance as a locum

Messages sent anyone else wants info give me a shout

Re: self employment and insurance as a locum

yerh im having the same problems as well, its annoyuing how much money u lose out on.

Re: self employment and insurance as a locum

Great thanks Caro

Re: self employment and insurance as a locum

Will send you chris details as well :-)

Re: self employment and insurance as a locum

I could also do with the contact as currently under umbrella company and its eating my money!!!!

Re: self employment and insurance as a locum

I will let you know the details for an accountant friend of mine in next couple of days his name is Chris been brilliant helping me.
