just wanted to know what everybody does with urine or other body fluids once yoiu have finished testing it. We just put urine down the sink and blood goes in the clinical waste bin in the tube it was collected.

thanks for that - will inform my boss in the morning!

if your boss is a bva member- they have a really good chart which tells you what waste goes where. it's no longer called 'clinical' waste, but hazardous (cytotoxics) nonhazardous - if my memory severs me right- this is split into household, offensive (urine + poo), and infectious.

We pay for our clincal waste collection by weight. If I put all the urine in there my boss would go mad!

[/quote]

I think everyone pays by weight. It is clinical waste though so as far as I'm aware it should be disposed of as clinical waste not down the sink.

The Controlled Waste Regulations 1992 defines clinical waste as ... "Clinical waste is any hazardous waste that consists of:

Animal tissue

Blood or other body fluids

Excretions

Drugs or other pharmaceutical products

Swabs or dressings....etc"
