Funnily enough I was going to add to this thread tonight anyway! I wanted to say I've been with them for a month now and have worked at 3 different branches so far and everyone I've met has been lovely! The atmosphere is really nice (though different) at each place and the clients on the whole are nice too! There is a lot to learn for a newbie and I felt a little thrown in at the deep end at first but I am definitely learning (slowly!) and everyone is happy to help.

I think I read somewhere someone suggest Medivet were more about money than patients but I have not found that to be the case at all. Everyone is caring and does anything they can for the animal often throwing in little extras and freebies where they can.

I hope this helps - although I can't guarantee that all areas are the same (I'm in Essex) !!

Digging up a very old thread here... I was just interviewed by Medivet today for a svn role, wonder how you have got on with them since you have been with them or if anyone else has any comments on them too?

I have an interview Monday at the head office! I am SO excited! But terrified - haven't had an interview for 3 years! No idea what to wear/say and I need to take 2 written references which I don't have yet! PANIC! Helpful hints/tips anyone?

I have a general question that you might know the answer to - what affect will the proposed change in the way vet nurses are being trained have on those like you who have just started?

Actually I have loads of questions! Is your college in Watford? Is there only one? Have you started going yet or are you waiting a while - pros/cons?!

Has anyone mentioned a salary increase - either after a specific amount of time or on completion of studies?

Do you do any reception duties?

Are you a floating nurse? If so how much can you dictate where/when you work? I am applying for a floating position within 8 practices but 2 of them are quite a long way and expensive to get to.

You don't have to answer this of course but if you wouldn't mind what was your starting salary?

I've just started as a trainee nurse with Medivet... no complaints so far really.

Is there anything specific about them that anyone wants to know?

I don't agree with the claims that it's based on making money rather than pet welfare... all of the vets I've worked with have been far more concerned with the patient than profit...

Same here! Just got call, I need to call her back tomorrow when I've decided if I'm interested ... I so am! So excited! It's a floating position though and I don't drive so a little worried - but there are others who don't drive she said so it's possible. It will be just over 1/2 what I'm earning now :S - but I think worth it. If she offers me an interview I'll definitely take it. She sounded lovely :D

they want to interview me..... salary is, low.... but then im in a stinky office at the mo, of course its going to be lower! ho hum..... quite a bit of travelling round. am very confused. will have an interview anyway - good to have the experience. whether i get the job or not. also, can't make a decision til ive spoken to them can i?! thing is i have been kinda holding out for another vets for sometime who i really want to work for.....

aaaggghhhh!!!

We had a locum nurse that was with us for 3 months last year, she had qualified with Medivet, she worked mainly at the Harrow branch. She said the training was brilliant! She saw some really good cases.

She did say that she had to pay for her own training, she got sponsered by reps.

The good side of paying for your training is that you dont owe the comapny anything in return. Once qualified you could move on etc.

Training places are so rare, may be too good to refuse?

I have an interview tommorow, at a TP as the practice I am in is to quite to train and other reasons with staff etc!

Kimbo is pretty accurate.

For training - good points

1) own college with excellent pass rates

2) shouldn't have to wait more than 1-2 years at most to get college place

bad points

1) work 8-10 and then go to college 12-7pm. long day!

2) don't get pay rise on qualifying, have to wait for head nurse posn (this may have changed)

3) pay is poor NMW

As a client

most practices staffed by nice vets and nurses - its the OOH cover that is questionable to say the least - will say no more on here.

Finally - a partner has just been struck off for failing to tell a client their dog a metz to the chest and was terminally ill.

I applied to Medivet a few weeks ago but they didnt have any placements. i do use them for my Staffy though and they are LOVELY, and adore her :) they are really nice bunch.

I also used to work for Pet Doctors. Took a little getting used to after my previous practice, but they treated me well & paid well. I would definitely work there again if I was back in the area.
