which I thoroughly enjoy but I'm looking for either a full-time
placement or trainee role within a practice in the North-West. I'm
currently based in Wigan, but as I can drive, I'm willing

Re: Voluntary/Placement/Trainee Role North-West
No shortage of students applying, but good, keen ones are hard to come by.
Very difficult to tell from just a CV though.

I guess I sometimes feel guilty about the money people spend on sending me their CV - often including an SAE. Stamps are expensive these days. I do LITERALLY get almost one every day. Even though I run two training practices, we currently have one 1st year SVN at both, as well as a 2nd year degree student. I also have two nursing assistants who are desperate to train next. Thus positions don't come up very often - I also like to think my staff are happy to stay where they are!

As to answering queries - it is what the receptionists are paid for. They don't mind answering someone's question about whether a position is available.

Re: Voluntary/Placement/Trainee Role North-West
I would say to send out letters too. If we get people on the phone asking if we have anything I tell them to send us a cv even though we don't currently have a position, as we will keep them on file and get in contact if a job comes up. Good luck
This is what I do too

As in practice, you never know whats around the corner, you may have no vacancies one day then a month down the line someone has handed in their notice.

Wouldnt want to miss out on a potential great member of staff. No shortage of students applying, but good, keen ones are hard to come by.

Keep posting those letters, dont give up!

Good luck with it all.

Re: Voluntary/Placement/Trainee Role North-West

I would say to send out letters too.
I know there are limited options for finding a job but...

noooooooooooooooooo

I get a CV almost every day........I am sorry to say they are of limited use unless you manage to hit lucky (which can happen...has done with us once where we received an excellent CV the day after someone resigned....) so may be best to save your postage costs and ring around to see if a position is available first.

I do try to keep decent CVs on file but they can build up somewhat...

I can see where you are coming from Gillian but I when I was head nurse i would have (personally) hated getting random phone calls asking...do you have a placement, at least with letters/cv's you can read them at your own leisure.

the other thing you could do is speak to charities and see if you can do a bit of voluntary work and then ask them to see if they have copies of vet times/vn times and vet record that you could look at the job sections in during your breaks or photocopy and take home to apply for advertised jobs.

I have known some practices to advertise in the local papers as well

Re: Voluntary/Placement/Trainee Role North-West

I know there are limited options for finding a job but...
