i was wondering if you could all help me!! im soo confused!
ive been thinking about doing a course, i wanna achieve something more! :-) ive looked into the advanced diploma, the graduate diploma by the rvc and the 'top up' honors

Re: CONFUSED! what course to do and whats the difference!!!

Hi Jane

I am glad to hear you are enjoying your course. I have looked at the course spec for this on the RVC website and the modules look interesting.

How have you found the jump from further education to HE level 3 (6) work? Have you already studied at HE level before? For your entry onto the course, how do you account (APEL) for your 120 credits at HE level 2 (5) to be able to directly enter at HE level 3 (6)? Because on the other diploma courses, your RVN qual and 1 year post-qualification experience counts for the 120 credits at level 1 (4), meaning students can enter the course directly at HE level 2... Is this issue the reason why the RVC course is only partically accredited by the RCVS do you think? It's a shame that their course doesn't allow you to directly complete that final module to achieve RCVS Dip AVN status and get your blue badge.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your course Jane and good luck if you have some exams coming up!!

Kindest regards

Claire

really enjoy it, academically a higher level than dip avn and therefore no need to do top up after.

But, only partially accredited with RCVS so if you want dip avn as well as pgdip after your name you need to do some more modules - however am sure this will change over time!

Re: CONFUSED! what course to do and whats the difference!!!

Hi Hayley

If you have any questions about how the advanced diploma course runs at Myerscough, from which you can top up to BSc (Hons) in 18 months as Mick mentioned, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is actually really simple how it works and I could clarify it all for you in a jiffy!

odule wise at Harper you choose what modules to do but have to start with evience based nursing, and have to complete compulsory units before go onto optional ones - so need to complete evidence based nursing, applied physiology, law ethics and systematic delivery of nursing before choosing from others eg anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging etc etc

Re: CONFUSED! what course to do and whats the difference!!!

Hi,

I am looking into doing the Dip AVN also, and just wondered how long it takes? And Roughly how much it costs as I cant really find anything that explains this. I have heard that you can do a module at a time but not really sure how this works? I would like to go to harper adams.

Also is there a specific starting date yearly, or different dates. If i was to apply now I was just wondering when I would be starting? I didnt realise there were exams that you had to do to get onto the course, this sounds quite scary!

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: CONFUSED! what course to do and whats the difference!!!

Hi, I did run out of time for my essay question but I had written bullet points of what I was going to put on a sepaprate sheet so they could see my plan, and just scribbled a very basic conclusion - definitely write down your bullet points as easy to forget or get things in wrong order when you start writing.

The maths question was meant to be increasing in difficulty as you went through but I i fact got stuck on questin 2 but was fine with the last question?? Time is very limited so with that just answer the ones you can do first, you can alwasy go back to harder ones if time left.
Not sure this is correct , if you look at the web site for College of Animal Welfare it just means that if we qualified a wee while ago just takes us a little longer as we have more credits to gain !!!

Ive just applied for the diploma at Harper, very excited! Ive had my interview question, it seems ok! But... Nicky! I wondered if you could enlighten me on your interview and how hard the scary maths test is and how you found writing your essay question in 30minutes??? Slightly panicking about writing against the clock!!

Big thing to consider is look at establishments and see if the type of study fits in with you and also can you travel to them. Currently only Harper Adams and Myerscough doing dip AVN - Harper is a Fri and Sat approx once month plus online study depending on how many modules you do at a time whereas I think Myerscough is block release - depends if your practice can spare you for odd fri/sats or blocks? I am doing mine via Harper as being a small practice no way could spare me for a block. I think RVC diploma is an initial block then mainly online.

I can only comment on Harper one but I'm loving it - if you want anymore info on this then let me know
