We are a cat-only cliinic in oxford and have been open for almost 5 yrs now and we are wanting to start nursing clinics.
Currently we do a few clinics in the afternoon for nurses to clip nails, weigh cats etc but feel there's no real

Re: Nursing Clinics-where to start!!

we are developing our nurse clinics and have renal/geriatric clinics where owners can come in for a chat, have their cat weighed, urine sample tested and blood pressure done. This is done for free to promote the clinics but when they come back the next time they pay a reexamine fee of about £18. We also have behavioural nurses for cats and dogs and the normal post op check, removal of sutures, dental checks, adolescent health checks and weight watcher clinics which are free. They run in the mornings (8.30am-12pm) and evenings (5-7pm) everyday and seem to get quite busy.

Re: Nursing Clinics-where to start!!

We run our nurse clinics 6 days a week

Mon-Fri 10.30-12pm, 1-2.30pm and Sat 9-1pm, 2-4pm

We charge a consult fee for nail clips, anal glands, microchips etc

But the rest of our clincs are free wt clincs, diabetic clinics, post ops, pre neuter checks etc

Re: Nursing Clinics-where to start!!

80% of our nurse appointments are free, things such as post op checks, suture removals, dental checks, 6 month checks, new pet checks etc.

The ones we do charge for include nail clips, microchips, express anal glands etc. Nurses (RVNs only) here also do 2nd vaccs, but the course is paid for upfront by the client.

We have a behaviour nurse who does half hour consults for the normal vet consult fee.

We don't have any structure really, apart from the fact that nurse appts are from 11am-12pm and 2pm - 3pm.

Re: Nursing Clinics-where to start!!

From the top of my head the clinics we run include

1. post op checks

2. weighing / food advice

3. Puppy and kitten talks

4. wormimg / flea

5. suture removal

6. anal glands

7. repeat injections if okay with vet

8. behaviour consults (with the behaviour nurse)

9. Nail clips

These are run as and when needed so we have a mix of each on any given day. Post op checks are free as this is built into the inital costs of the operation (only need to pay for any further medication etc). other nurse clinics do get charged but to be honest I am not sure of how much they cost as I've not been in the practice that long and can't remember the pricing!

Hope that helps a bit?

Behaviour in cats is also quite popular like inappropriate urination/stress cystitis. We charge a minimal fee (less than £10)
plus any flea/worm/feliway/zylkene sold) Good response to this as people think cat just misbehaving. Why not try diabetic clinics or geriatric checks.Ask clients to pop a urine sample in to check liver /kidney function check blood pressure & poss bloods if client agrees. You can then refer on to a vet if problem is detected. Hope this helps.
