I am currently doing the DipAVN with myerscough. Not sure how much you know but as youve said situated at myerscough which you visit every 3 months on weekend basis. Doing the course will only get you HECAVN but then you go on to do a 3-6 month dissertation with the RCVS at the end to obtain your DipAVN.

The course is now intergrated. The first year goes into research, medical nursing, ethics and physiology with a total of 4 essays (one in each subject) Exams at end of year involve nursing and physiology (Have mine in 3 months and scared!!!!)

Second year you choose 3 modules of your choice. As far as i understand once you have the module its yours and it is now recognised as a qualification outside the Veterinary world.

Its a lot of hard work (which am sure you expect) but really rewarding. I have learnt more on this course than i did in nursing and a real insight to the acedemic world.

To get in you are expected to wirite an essay on the subject of their choice once sent of an application. This is the section i was worried about as never written an essay before but wassnt as bad as i thought.

Hope this helps xxx

Re: Dip AVN, how,when,where!?

not that i'm bitter or anything

Re: Dip AVN, how,when,where!?

I suppose you work at the RCVS ?

ive had many run-ins with the royal c!

I phoned them regarding this course at myerscough about a year ago and recieved a rather narky bat on the phone who repeated again and again that they didnt deal with it and i'd have to phone the college! She didnt seem to understand that the RCVS apply the DIPAVN section at the END of the HECVN course!

Tho she might have retired now i suppose...maybe she was at the end-of-her-term!

I have also spoken to RCVS regarding my CPD card and what applies as CPD and whether inhouse training on TPLO surgery by one of the partners counted - I was told to read my card...that explained it all...I asked 'but did it count as in-house training or what...what bit did it count as." The 'gimp' replied "as long as i could account for my knowleedge then it was classed as CPD". I asked whether i would be questioned on this then...."NO OF COURSE NOT...WHO was i going to be questioned by - as long as i could account for my knowleedge then it was classed as CPD"

Clear as mud!

Costs are around £2800 with accom on top. Accom isnt provided but there is Guys and prem lodge at end of the road!

You have to be in tp/tier'd surgery or referral (suitable surgery with a suitable caselod) and have to have a 'mentor' at the surgery to answer qu'd but not mark things like an assessor. It is distance learning (with 3 weekends per yr at myerscough. Have to write 1000 word report on surg/med case just to get into an interview but apparently thats just a formality...if you can be bothered to write 1000 wrds you can be bothered to do cousrse etc....

There are writtens in 1st + 2nd yrwith practs at end of 2nd yr with a 5000 wrd report / dissitation then an interview at m'cough to discuss dissitation with tutors. Writtens can be done at work tho 'under exam conds'.

There are 4 modules in 1st yr and 5 in 2nd yr...you choose 3 of the 5 surg or med based.....anything else you want to know?
