Sorry to hear you are struggling a bit! you have exactly the same symptoms as me and i have finally been referred to a muscular skeletal specialist and awaiting the phone call to get an appointment on Feb 1st. Its a lengthy process but im so relieved that something is being done!! Im dreading an MRI but know it will probably happen! Good luck let us know how you get on! x

Re: Leg/lower back pain?

I also have sciatica and also use the same old treatment of diclofenac etc. doesnt quite help 100% but it gets me through! I find that im better when I am gently walking around. Sitting down for long periods of time leaves me in agony!

Re: Leg/lower back pain?

A bit better thankyou, still cramping in my back but not nearly as bad as yesterday :)

Re: Leg/lower back pain?

How are you feeling today?

Sounds similar to me. I did something to my back during lambing one year and got pins and needles and pain down one leg, took me a few visits to an osteopath and ibuprofen to sort me out. I have to admit I left it quite a long time before I sought help which was in hindsight rather silly of me.

Re: Leg/lower back pain?

Oh dear. I was diagnosed with Sciatica in the summer. When it gets really bad the only thing that works for me is:

Cocodamol - max dose - taken 1 hour before I get out of bed (otherwise I cannot get out!)

Then, top up as needed throughout the day. I combine it with NSAIDs as well. Touch wood I saw an osteopath for 3 treatments within about 10 days and have been clear of sciatica pain since then (August). Before that I had got to the point where I was walking like an old lady and almost continuously in pain.

Re: Leg/lower back pain?
Thanks Donna - that's really helpful. I'm working this weekend unfortunately so no work for me :( I hope I don't end up having to have an MRI or anything!
MRI is the only way of finding out a definitely diagnosis. Hopefully pain killers and anti inflammatory drugs will help you.

I'm currently suffering from a recurrence of lower back/leg pain and current medication combinations are not keeping pain at bay. So think I'll be heading for the magnet soon!

Hope your feeling better soon.

Re: Leg/lower back pain?

Thanks Donna - that's really helpful.
It does sound like sciatic pain, my pain is worstl in my bum!! but can get pain right down to my heel on bad days..it too can also feel numb and tingly (abit like the start of pins and needles)

the back pain is lower back and again starts feeling numb then stiff/extreme pain depending on what I have done.

I would reccommend seeing your GP on monday, try and rest over the weekend, maybe staedy walking to help the muscles or go for a swim to help ease things (but dont do breaststroke as this puts pressure on the spine)

at the moment my back/sciatica is bad so the drugs im on are diclofenac/codeine/nurofen and warm/cold compresses 3 times a day.

hope this helps and you get sorted and dont leave it like I did.

Donna

sounds like your sciatic nerve. but if it's not just your lower back and more in your upper back it could be your shoes or feet not having enough support! i would go to your GP and ask for a referral to a musculo skeletal doctor.
