Since the weather turned cold late November my skin on my face went bonkers- intensely itchy, red and puffy in places. This also happened in February

Re: Skin irritation/allergy

Used veg oil to fry off onions, grated carrots lentils and veg stock. All in slow cooker, didn't use thickener as like soups to be as come after blending. Didn't add any spices except paprika but have that on prawns. I may have used fresh corriander as well. Can't remember but carrot and corriander soup is fine.

You guess is as good as mine. Not allergic to gluten I eat not lots but regularly gluten products and my GI tract is fine so not convinced. Not really allergic according to them either (NHS). I still think related to my hayfever as the symptoms are related plus I don't swell up in the mouth or throat.

Re: Skin irritation/allergy

[quote user="Susan Jackson RVN MBVNA"]

I've tried to keep diaries. I found I reacted to a covent garden soup 'Winter Veg' all of the ingredients I have on a regular basis and have never reacted. Even tried to dose my self with pepper to see if that helped. No reaction. I had a carrot and red lentil soup I made myself so think red lentils may be one of the triggers. Then ate chips and mushy peas which I reacted to the 3rd time I ate this not the first two, so god only knows. There's also something in Indian foods but again could be a spice still unsure.

It would be great if it was one thing, I'm suspicious it's related to my hayfever and a combo of ingredients or possibly chemicals they put in foods to preserve. Staying away from red lentils though

What were the exact ingredients of the lentil soup you made. include everything, oil, flour to thicken etc.

Re: Skin irritation/allergy

I've tried to keep diaries.
Hi

I get this suddenly after eating something. Unfortunatly don't know what the food is. I've had tests but until I can't breath the Doctors don't care.

My face swells up especially round the eyes, I get itchy palms and feet, bit like shingles then my chest gets tight. I would probably say a very mild asthma.

I get this after eating certain shellfish - so I leave them alone now, if you keep a diary of what you eat when these reactions occur it isnt so difficult to work out for yourself ( mine has since been confirmed by medics)

Re: Skin irritation/allergy

i've already spoke to Mac re her post but for Susan have you been checked for gluten intolerance? as this can cause those symptoms.

Re: Skin irritation/allergy

Hi

My face swells up especially round the eyes, I get itchy palms and feet, bit like shingles then my chest gets tight. I would probably say a very mild asthma. I suffer with hay fever so It seems to aggravate those areas first.

Firstly the NHS are hopeless - Had to just get that off my chest!

A friend of mine is training as a Medical Dietician and had me reduce my meat protein and source it from lentils etc, reduce my dairy and eat more high fibre, veg and antioxident type foods. She also put me on echinacea and a calcium magnesium complex vitamins and minerals. I started this with doubts it would work but after 4 weeks I stopped needing antihisamines for my hayfever. I still have the food response but it's slightly milder.

Not sure but this might work for your skin, I would still get them to allergy test you and refer to skin specialist but this is something that you could consider also.

Good luck

Re: Skin irritation/allergy

Dream Cream from Lush.
