I agree!!! I am just doing my SAVN 14 and I feel as if I am repeating myself over and over again and using the same references!! What are you struggling with the cystotomy? We just did one of those in a rabbit the other day!!

i found the bsava books that the vets use really useful and there is a minor surgery for vet nurses book which helped me no end - it has LOADS on different wounds and healing.This is the reference

I know, I hated them too! I used a variety of references, remeber you can use journals and articles from vntimes, etc. I found that a great book to use for a lot of the assignments is the minor surgery for vet nurses

I'm struggling with SAVN 18 I have written one case up on a cat, but my trauma case for dog cant find any references on laceration wounds. Also struggling to write about a cystotomy in a rabbit.

I'm hating these assignments

HI Rosie, i think the key elements to the RL and T, and Orem models are that they are based on humans and so not all of the 'activities of living' (RLT) or 'self care requisites' (O) are applicable. i think it would be a good idea to give an explanation of what they are about, and how they can or cant be used in the veterinary field. Lane and cooper book has a good section in it about care plans, and also, there has been a recently new veterinary care plan (the only one i believe at the moment) called 'the ability model' - cant remember who it is by. Remember that all models should be able to fit into nursing process (assessment, plan, implement, evaluate). Hope this helps.

Hi Chloe that has helped thanks. Still having trouble evaluating RL and T model and Orem. they havnet even taught us that bit of the sylabus yet but expect us to be able to evaluate it

Suppose it depends on the college. Mine decided to spread it out a little bit and add another half a year on the course. Practicals in March 2012. Theory July 2011. The SAVN pathway is more intense and if we focus on the simple stuff of NPL, Theatre practice, radiography, laboratory, etc then we can just focus on the coursework and more difficult caselogs with critical care and emergencies and anaesthesia cases, etc etc. Well thats what i think anyways. Other colleges i know have squeezed it ll into 1 year.

Hi Rosie, what is a SMART or swot technique? ive written one case so far and commented on what nursing care was given i.e. fluids, why, and whether this was a good idea. Look for supporting literature to argue what you did was right, or wrong/ could be improved, in a way it is really similar to savn 18 an savn14 in that respect. hope this helps

I am on the transitional dimploma doing my final year . why will u have to do 2 more years when i only have 1 more to do i will finish mine this year. The assignments are a total pain in the bum.

nope im on transition diploma. got my first year under NVQ. started transition diploma sept 2010. then gotta do at least another 2 terms at college for the SAVN pathway, starting in sept 2011. Got my 2nd year (equiv to NVQ L3) theory exams in july 2011. and my practicals will be March 2012 if the whole of the NPL is completed.

Havent had any of the proper assignments yet. Been told we're not starting the SA (small animal) pathway yet until sept this year. So i assume, id start them then... currently only working on VN8, VN9, VN10 and VN11 of the NPL. I hate assignments, so im not looking forward to it when they do start.
