we are in a not particularly wealthy part of cornwall and we charge £64 this includes acp/vet/met inj preop, iv propoflo, iso/02 via et tube, buster collar and 2 post op checks.

I have locummed and worked in a number of practices in London and prices have ranged from £50-64.

Where I am at currently it is £54 for flank - pre med, iso/o2, tube, inj metacam and ab's etc. They can and are advised to go home with a buster collar (£2.75) and metacam (the little 3ml bottles for £9.75). They have subdermal sutures and are seen by the vet at 2 days and 10 days for no extra cost - I think a nurse could do this if there was enough staff!!

and of course you're not using these figures to set your prices, as that would be price fixing and we're not allowed to do that.....

We are east midlands. Ours cost around £60, this is for flank spay, dissolvable sutures, no post op check unless necessary. dom/ket with metacam, iso/o2 if required.

I think clipping can discolour fur of some cats, but i thought it was only for a few moults??

Most practices make their vaccination and neutering prices very competitive, as this is what initially brings clients in, then gets them bonded to the practice. Prices for other procedures normally vary greatly between surgeries.

We are in the north east and charge £70 inc i/v cath, prop/iso. Pain relief and 2 nurse POC and buster collar.

Midline are more expensive. Oh and clipping does dicolour the fur, my black and white moggy has discoloured fur from clipping.

Hi we are in the norfolk area and we do all our c/spays with triple combination, pain relief, antibiotic, vicryl sutures under the skin so no need for s/o, and post op checks by nurses for £67.50. Spays done flank normally but do midline if requested for orientals price is no different. Price only different if pregnant

Hi Steph, yes they get offered the choice, if they want midline the Australian vet does them and he is very popular and can only fit in one a day (he is only in in the mornings and is always booked up) which I think is why it costs more, ie, because he's in demand rather than because the procedure is seen as better/ different etc.

Most people don't care either way mainly, apart from a few times people with siamese cats and similar say they prefer it because they say the flank spay discolours the coat more, not sure if that is right or not as I have not seen asn oriental have a flank spay.

Hi Polly.. Just interested to know.. do clients get a choice on how their cat is spayed - flank or midline? or does it depend on which vet is on?

We're in south wales and charge £53 (alfaxan / tubed / GA / o2 maintenence) price also includes pre med and inj's of abx & pain relief & 2 post op checks with the nurse.. buster collar is extra.

West Mids area. DTK, tubed and iso/o2 maintenance. Metacam & LA antibs. Flank spey-catgut ligatures & vicryl. We use sterile (re-useable) gown and sterile gloves. Off the top of my head, we charge around £50 (I have a feeling it £54!). Buster collar extra. Includes two poc's. Post-op complications are charged at cost price.

Hi... cambs area... we dom/torb/ket/ metacam inj, and intubate/iso/O2 and flank spay.... we charge £45, give or take the odd penny(unsure exactly cos of vat increase). Includes post op chk at 2-3 days and 10 days for s/o.
