I could be wrong, but I thought the degree was a lot of theory and not much "hands on" in the first year? You do a placement/s in 2nd/3rd year, so starts to get more hands on after 1st year?

Could you carry on where you left off with the degree? At least its working towards something relevant while you look for a svn position?

Re: Giving up :(

I had 1 day off poorly and coz i was in my probationary period and they didnt like it so they ended my contract.

Im proof that if you want it you can have it, its taken me 10 years to start my training. Keep trying, you will get there! After years of interviews i finally had to start out on reception and only got the job because i had applied for every job at the Willows (even a storeman job!) and they remembered my name coming up for every job. I was offered a 6 month maternity cover job and left my full time permanant job. It was a risk but it paid off because after a few months i was offered a permanant position, 18 months later i managed to get a job at another branch as a auxlliary nurse, 3 years later im doing my training. Believe me its worth the wait!!!! Even if you have to take a job somewhere else until you get a break. Good luck, go for your dreams

Re: Giving up :(

Aw don't give up!! In fact I was starting to feel really disheartened because I kept getting interviews but just missed out on the job so it was really annoying, frustrating and tiring. I wanted out of my job as i hated it and was suffering from depression so i said to my oh, that is it, I am just going to get an admin job and hope that in the future I can get in to vet nursing.

The next day my current employers phoned me and wanted to see me as they had another job vacancy. I had already had an interview with them and someone else got the job the first time. They offered me the job when I went in for my second interview.

It is funny how things work out but if you really want it don't give up. Just get a job in the meantime and keep trying, that is all you can do. You never know, some nurses should be qualifying soon so some practices might begin to look for new trainees.
So sorry to hear you are finding it hard and on the point of giving up :(

I will keep a look out for vacancies in the region for you, dont do anything too hasty. Do you have experience, how long were you in the job for? A locum agency may be able to find you something in the short term (I know Rig Vets do place non qualified nurses), as some practices are happy for 'experienced help' instead of RVNs in certain situations, to help out with minor things that you can do, so the RVNs can concentrate on their bits x

Re: Giving up :(

Don't give up hun and make any rash decisions.
