I don't know what the average is for the south but I was thinking £15.00 per hour, does that sound ok?

Re: short term locum

if you are wanting to go on payroll make sure they have your p45 asap so they have the best chance of sorting out your wages so you dont get stung for emergency tax - which can take an age to sort out, I am still waiting for them to sort out 2007!

as a locum you can claim for your rcvs fees, laundering of uniforms, some of your travel expenditure and some subsitance - there may be other stuff but thats what I am aware of.

when using locum agencies go for the ones that dont take a cut of your hourly/ daily rate - it can end up costing you serious money. I have always tried to get paid through payroll wherever possible - make sure you arrange an actual date by which you expect to be paid (I know that sounds basic but you will be surprised how long some of the corporates espec can make you wait for money owed - they want you to work urgently but when it comes to pay its a case of manyana).
