Ibuprophen tablets by Rx are given at 800 mg in the USA. to be taken up to 4 times daily. so i don't think that's too much. just be sure you have something in your stomach. :)

Can tell l am not thinking l forgot google :-( I was going like Steph says on the internal piece of paper chart.

May jiggle it a bit as 8hrs is to long between doses think l will go for 4 thanks folks. Have a spot of wall marked to bang head against when it gets bad, friend told me to go pick a fight and have someone throw a punch to knock the tooth out.. eish l love him so much...not!!

From Wiki: Low doses of ibuprofen (200 mg, and sometimes 400 mg) are available over the counter (OTC) in most countries. Ibuprofen has a dose-dependent duration of action of approximately 4–8 hours, which is longer than suggested by its short half-life. The recommended dose varies with body mass and indication. Generally, the oral dose is 200–400 mg (5–10 mg/kg in children) every 4–6 hours, adding up to a usual daily dose of 800–1,200 mg. 1,200 mg is considered the maximum daily dose for over-the-counter use, though under medical direction, the maximum amount of ibuprofen for adults is 800 milligrams per dose or 3200 mg per day (4 maximum doses).

Awww Caro! Tooth ache is the worst!

What I have found most beneficial is 400mg ibuprofen (2 x 200mg tabs) and 8/500mg cocodamol, taken in tandem - ibufrofen at 8am, cocodamol at 12 noon and so on.

When it got really bad the dentist prescribed me 30/500mg cocodamol, which totally hit the spot, but also made me very drowsy. He also advised it in tandem with 'normal dose' ibuprofen - which does work tbh

hmmmm info on my ibuprofen is 1-2 every 4 hours but no more than 6 in 24 hour period,

when i was bad with my back i was taking co-codomol every 4 and then cos i was getting pain at the 3 hour marki was taking ibuprofen in betweenand trying to remeber, sure the docs said that was fine throughout the day so maybe a max of 8 tabs in a 24 hour period....just make sure you have something in your stomach to stop probs!

Ok, so what's my ibuprofen dosage?

Adults: 200-400mg every 4-6 hours, no more than 1200mg/day
Children (2-12): 7.5-10mg per kilogram (2.2lbs) of body weight every 6-8 hours, maximum 3 times per day. Do not exceed the adult dosage.
Children under 2: Talk to a doctor.

Ibuprofen usually starts working after about 30 minutes (up to 3 weeks for arthritis).

Ibuprofen is best taken with a full glass of water, and food if possible, unless your doctor says otherwise.

This ibuprofen dosage information comes from the book "Prescription & Over-the-Counter Drugs for Canadians" 2002 edition, put out through the Canadian Medical Association.

when i had my car crash i was put on:

600mg ibuprofen tid

325mg co-proxamol bid

5mg diazepam tid

Happy days...I think...

*hugs* Caro, tooth pain is not nice.

When mine hits, metronizaole seems to sort it (once I'm over the whole swallowing tablet phobea thing) but try and avoid any meds whereever possible. I go into the dentist, laymy head on the desk and get a refurral to hospital to get them ripped out.

Should mention, I dislike dentists and have a needle phobea too! Gas and just take out please!
