What I was saying was that as the royal wedding isn't officially recognised as yet, then you aren't entitled to a day off in lieu.

Re: The royal wedding

[quote user="Steph Worsley RVN MBVNA"]

My first practice was normally busy on bank holidays except for the one time when it was dead. The next practice I was in was open normal hours and it was stupid. We had hardly any appointments and felt like such a waste of a day. Hate being at work when it's quiet.

Re: The royal wedding

[quote user="Kim Blowing RVN"]

The wedding day has been declared a public holiday but, as yet, there has been no mention about it being a legal day off. I suspect this won't change and it will be left to individual employers. Therefore, although a lot of people will probably gain an extra day off, the employer is entitled to take it from holiday allowance if they want....

Was just having a read and you don't actually have an automatic day off on bank holidays anyway. It is down to what it says in your contract.

was just going to say that - you beat me to it! When I worked for one of the big corporates it was in our contract that we would work Good Friday - we were given another day on our holidays because of it - but big deal! I never really understood the logic because our out of hours provider covered the whole of Good Friday anyway so the company were paying for out of hours cover and paying staff to work. We didnt exactly see droves of clients either because most of them were out enjoying themselves!

I think the veterinary industry is a bit different because we need to provide services 24/7 but my bf works for a company that provides IT support for other companies so it makes no sense for them to work on a bank holiday as all their clients will not be open.
