We do our own on call, and will have a nurse and vet on call from 1pm ish christmas eve, until the tuesday evening - we do have an answering service which helps a lot, but us nurses have sorted out which days we are on call over crimbo & new year - we get a day in leiu and paid for any call outs

we are opening all 3 bank hols for an hour each day. ooh clinic takes rest- opening until 6 xmas eve but lunchtime on nye as boss going away!!

we are going to open the surgery for 4 hours all 3 bank holidays over xmas and new year, have asked for volunteers to work for double time, muggins said yes as will only be lazing around or shopping else!!

we're closing at 1pm on xmas eve (on a normal day would be 7pm). We share OOH with another practice and this year it's our turn to do xmas call. one nurse does 1pm xmas eve until 8am xmas day when i take over then i'm on call until 8am boxing day when another nurse takes over. Vets take the phones. Fingers crossed not many inpatients. at 8am boxing day I am driving back to my parents from ramsgate to high wycombe and then having xmas on boxing day

We have always left early on xmas eve 2pm at latest! However we now have different OOHs service that wont cover from earlier than 7pm BOOOOOOOOO!

My old practice did their own OOH and I was on call xmas eve. Everyone else finished at 1ish and went out for a meal. I was planning to go as only up the road but then the phone went crazy! Was mega busy and I was up at 12.30am helping with a guinea pig with a respiratory infection. Was very glad to leave at 8am xmas day morning.

We've always worked until 12pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve if they have fell on a weekday. This year though our OOH provider has changed hands and won't be taking over the phones until 6.30pm on both of those days. It's not gone down very well.

I'm glad that other practices are closing early on Xmas eve. I had a hell of a job persuading my boss but eventually he agreed.

We're open til 4 Xmas eve then closed until the Weds when it's normal working hours. We have a dedicated OOH provider so they're taking the phones from 12 noon Xmas eve. We will be here on Xmas Day and Boxing Day if clients are already booked in for urgent rechecks, but in a kind of "shhhhh... don't tell anyone" kind of way. I'm doing both days, kinda taking one for the team as HN.

Yup it is, used 4 days hols for 20th to 23rd but then we close down after that. what with the week i have just had off, I will have only worked 8 days in dec up until xmas hehehe

How come there's only 2 of you doing xmas and new year?? what about the OOH girls?

Our opening is odd, we are on skeleton staff from the 24th (most finish on the 23rd) until the 4th, this is because of a closure period the uni operates, I actually dont see how long we can carry on doing this as we are usually quite busy between xmas and new year. we have 3 nurses on on 24th and then 2 every day up to the 31st then 1 nurse on the 1/2/3 Jan which is how our normal bank hol weekends would be at the mo,

However we aren't going to complain with this cos we get plenty of time off, I actually finish on the 17th and am not back in until the 31st!!!!

4 day weekend... my practice hosts an emergency service for all subscribed practices in the area overnight, normally starts at 7pm until 8.30am next morn... Xmas eve my practice is closing 4pm and the emergency service taking over then.

I am doing some locum work for a local practice, and we are open for two hours on the two bank holidays and then normal hours for the rest of the week. The two hours we are open are for emergencies only......I am not sure what sort of emergencies they think we (just locum me and a locum vet) can deal with in two hours! There is already a 24 hour emergency line operating that covers all of the branches anyway. I'll be surprised if we see anyone! (well at least I hope not - in the nicest possible way of course!!)

we are a 24hr emergency practice so i get to work all of xmas and new year and the following week split with one of the other nurses we wont be doing set consults for the main days but we will still be open and if its like usual it will be mental busy

we have out of hours practice, so 4 days of closed-ness for my place! I'm on call 27th, working 28th at OOH , same for me over the new year, closed saturday, working sunday and the bank hol monday.

Hi,

Our practise uses different place for out of hours so our clients see them over the weekend, but we are going to open for few hours on tuesday. Shame cos I'll have to travel monday night to get home for work, boo.
