So sorry, I'm in the same boat as everyone else - desperately in need of help writing SOP's for the whole practice. We are a relatively new practice about to become a nurse training practice & I have been the lucky one chosen to write all the SOP's for the whole practice - NIGHTMARE!! Any offers of help/templates of SOP's or (& here's hoping with everything crossed) any SOP's you'd like to share would by most gratefully received.

Hi been reading this thread I too work part time and have to do sops for the whole practice!! Seems so daunting and I know its wrong to ask for someone to email me theirs because of all their hard work and effort put in but id really appreciate it id even pay lol! Just cant get started. When we train on surgical prep we write a customised SOP for the participants. If you want an idea of format then look at the uploaded files in my profile.

Hi i have been searching for info on sops and came across this thread i would be grategul if you could also email me some examples as i have started working at a practice with none in place currently and it is one of the action points needed to meet some tp issues to enable our student to be able to continue her training with us so i've been left to sort this problem and again have no idea where to start and am given no time to do it in work hours.

Hiya,

Where I work we have power point presentations aswell as SOP's, so for things like cleaning the endoscope, IV cannulas etc we have a step by step picture guide along with text. Agian this is time consuming, but it is really helpful for new staff and if there is anything new and your not sure. I like the powerpoints, I find them so helpful and they ain't boring to read either, it makes it more enjoyable.

If we have time, we also have in-house CPD's. If one of the nurses has a particular interest in a certain area they have the opportunity to do in house training session. These range from how to deal with a crash, setting up fluids, using the lab eqiupment, setting up the ventilators. It is really good and makes you understand your job. I've done one for Vet Nurse Assisstants on how to set up the dental machine and use the Istat machine, each one only took 5 - 10mins and they found it really benefically.

Not sure if that will help in your practise our not, but thought i'd try and help.

Hope you get them sorted though and they don't become a hassell to sort out

Hi there - it's basically as Rachel has said above. I literally wrote a step by step guide of how to do everything! Time consuming but got there in the end. Also had to do it for all equipment, etc. Hope you're getting on ok with it x

You basically need to write what it is that you already do.

For example you need an SOP for cleaning theatre. How is theatre cleaned at the moment? You probably have a protocol in place, its just not written down.

You will need SOPs for pretty much everything! E.g. Maintaining asepsis in theatre; skin preparation for surgery; surgical scrubbing; cleaning instruments.......and so on.

The format isn't important so long as you include the necessary information.

Thanks for your help. To be honest I think it's SOP's for pretty much everything to do with theatre practice and for the prep room it's mainly dental stuff!!

I hate being thrown into doing stuff like this - I have hardly any time at work as it is - I only work part time!
