Sorry to here about your little Border, how worrying. I was told that by 2 vets to wait until she has a 1st season as this helps clear the vaginitis, maturity I guess? It had crossed my mind that she would be prone to pyo due to her infections etc.

My Border Terrier suffered from vaginitis, she had her first season at 5 months, then second at 8 months, followed by a closed pyo a month later! All the vets I have spoken to think the pyo was most likely caused by the infection tracking upwards, please, please keep an eye on your bitch after her first season, and if you are planning on spaying her consider doing it before the first season. A lot of research now suggests that spaying before the first season is the only way to prevent mammary tumours in later life anyway, and most vets will spay the larger breeds before their first season.

I nearly lost my girl, as pyo was not on the differential list for a 9month old pup!

Yes I think it is her flare ups that affect her, just wanted some reassurance really.

Hope she has a season soon, but most of her line of breeding didnt come into season untill 12-18mths. Hope she has a season abit earlier than that so things can settle.

Will look into cystaid.

I had a similar problem with my springer spaniel bitch Flick when she was a puppy. She was slightly inverted down below until she had her first season. She used to get juvenile vaginitis on and off until she had had her first season - I then spayed her.

She hasn't had it since thankfully!

Could it maybe be that it hurts for your pup to wee when she's having a bout? that may be putting her off going hence the 'quick wee very often symptoms'. You can also get Cystaid capsules for dogs - they may help her a little.

Hope this helps!
