we are finding it a real problem in practice maintaining our clipper blades. They dont last as long as they should before they need sharpening and what happens is that they actually 'catch' the hair rather than removing it.

I can tell by looking at ours which sets have been sharpened and which have not and never tend to sharpen a second time because they catch the skin even more than after the first sharpening.

Re: Care of clipper blades

Not if they are sharpened properly!!

Re: Care of clipper blades

I've found that once they have been sharpened they are much more inclined to catch the skin and cause a clipper rash.

Re: Care of clipper blades

We have a particular set of blades that seem to cause clipper rash no matter how careful you are.
I think that lubricating them once a day helps, once they have had to be sharpened once they need it more and more, oh and I keep a stash of blades in my locker cos if they are all in the prep room they all get used and then if they run out you can be evrybodies best friend if you have some more!!!

They said always clean hair away after each use, if washing ensure they are 100% dry and never soak in water or leave wet. Major point is lubrication, apparently the sprays aren't that great, so get some oster blade wash in a shallow bowl and after each use run clippers in this (tip of baldes with teeth)which gets rid of all bits of ingrained hair and also lubricates at the same time. This is working well for us.

Re: Care of clipper blades

i've seen them left in surgical spirit overnight, but i think the best bet is just to clean and lubricate them after each use.
