I was thinking tonight that I might try and get a voluntary position at a Vets just to try and fill my CV a little. My question

Re: Voluntary work

I returned to nursing about 4-5yrs ago after a 12yrs break, although I had done numerous other animal related jobs during that time, but the job I had at the end of it was medical but not animal related so I was kind of in the same position. I was just really honest with them and said that I still had all the knowledge but might just be a bit rusty with regards to certain drugs (they were still using Nuvan Top and Endorid when I left!) I played up the skills and experience I had gained in other lines of work during that time, strengfths that perhaps someone who had only worked in practice might not have and accepted a slightly loxwer salary that I would have liked for the first 12mths and then moved on once I was back up to speed. The other thing you could try if you feel confident enough after the break away is to do a couple of locum stints which would look good and relevant on your cv but you would get paid for in the meantime. It does seem there are practices around who are struggling to fill positions so I'm sure if you sell your skills in the right way, there will be someone who sees beyond the break and sees the experience you gained prior to that. Good luck.
