I am 100% that is

Re: Need to override the vet on this one...how??

Hope the little one is ok. I think you have the right plan there. You will be amazed if you move somewhere where your experience and dedication are apreciated what a difference it will make. My old boss had a thing about qualified nurses, he had only had one who he didnt get on with so therefore all are unsuitable for the practice!! Exaperating when you are wanting to do your training!!! But I am now in a training practice and loving it!!!

You are doing the best you can for the dog and maybe he will realise that it is not improving soon but unfortunately if you push anymore he will probably stick to his guns even more. I would advise keep quiet and hope

Fingers crossed for you and him

Re: Need to override the vet on this one...how??

Thanks for your replies, I'm not one for diagnosing things, I know I'm not a vet but this is getting to me as the pup looks so miserable and uncomfortable. I feel he does things to get to me a good amount of the time, since I started college and qualified the relationship has changed due to my knowledge, I ask why, instead of before when I just took my orders etc. He thinks he is right all the time. Some days we have an ok relationship, tolerable I would say, depends on the humour, but its usually I am right you are wrong attitude with him. I am there a long time and am afraid to move, I get paid very well, my partner has lost his job recently and we need the money. I would take a pay cut if I were to move...probably by 5,000, thats another story. Basically I cant do a thing, I just have to nurse this animal to the best of my ability and keep him comfortable. I cried most of the evening, just sad that this is the outcome. I know I am treading on thin ice if I were to say anything again, I already said my piece and it wasnt taken well. He likes me to be the nurse when it suits him, I'm sorry, I am exasperated...I need to keep a look out for another job I think, thanks for replys!

Re: Need to override the vet on this one...how??

Is there another vet that can look into the case at all in an 'unofficial' way? Thing is as nurses its not like we can diagnose/prescribe, although it can be difficult to see if a treatment doesn't seem to have much effect.

Can you speak to him about your findings from a nursing perspective rather than a diagnosis/treatment view? Maybe he hasn't noticed the dog is in pain or uncomfortable but this is something we see when nursing these cases. Do you normally have a good working relationship with this vet in that you could discuss cases with them and offer your view on how the patient is rather than what you think the treatment plan should be?

Its not an ideal situation but tbh, I don't think many vets would appreciate nurses telling them a diagnosis or treatment plan, and this is for a good reason-we aren't vets!

Re: Need to override the vet on this one...how??

At the end of the day much as you feel you are right you cannot make a diagnosis and you cannot decide what treatment needs to be given. If it was your own pet then you would have the choice of using another vet but it isnt so that decision is up to the owners and it may be that the owners have decided what sort of treatment they would prefer and are happy with the treatment they are receiving. If working where you are is causing so much conflict are you working in the right practice?

How do you definitively know that your diagnosis is correct?

I appreciate you are frustrated but my advice would be to be very careful you are on dodgy ground
