I was on 15.5k as a newly qualified and got paid extra for nights and had days off in lieu for weekends.

I might be a little out of touch but I would have thought £16,000 was reasonable for a newly qualified although how many hours are you doing for this? I would have thought c£7.50 - 8.00ph was more like it (but, again, I am probably a bit out of touch). Depends how much OOH and what is expected during OOH work as well.
