My friend (R.I.P) used to work in a hotel in Penrith, the walks around there are beautiful. There's also some castle ruins to have a wonder about and some good places for cream tea if I remember correctly.

take the ferry from coniston to ambleside, its only about 10 miles but very relaxing!

walk up the old man in coniston.

visit Grizedale Forest, its fab.

Im not sure of vets in the area as its abit further north than where I lived but I havent heard any bad comments of vets around the area, I will ask a couple of mates.

Hey, your going to my stomping ground!! was brought up near there! you wont be short of walks round there anyway!

Take a trip to Coniston, walk up the old man, on a clear day you can see Blackpool tower!!

Most pubs are dog friendly round there. If you fancy a day trip, visit Kirkby Lonsdale (my hometown!) for a mooch a round, its rather nice , its about half an hr south from Windermere. about 5 mins off the M6 J36!

the pubs mentioned in previous messages are all good too!

you will have lots of fun, any other questions you know where I am!

If you like walking (whole day) then use the Eskdale steam railway to go one way, then walk back. We had a lovely day - dogs are fine on it too!

Muncaster castle allows dogs too (well it did last summer anyway) and is a great day out - gorgeous grounds! We just popped them in the car while we looked round the house! (I should say that it was raining and cold - no risk of overheating that day!)

There is a fantastic pub called the Watermill at Ings, just a couple of miles outside Windermere which is totally dog friendly, one side of the restaurant is for people who don't want to sit with the dogs, the other side (much larger!) is for dogs, they bring gravy bones round to the dogs, the food there is fantastic and they have there own brewery. They do accomodation for dogs as well, but have to book well in advance.

I stayed in Coniston for a week July just gone and there are quite a few nice walks from there, just get a cheap guide, fairly easy to follow. Also depending on your dog/s and if you're a horse fan, in Millom there is a heavy horse riding stables, that was fantastic! Each ride catered for the individual of the group, my partner and another lady walked and trotted, another cantered and I was able to have a gallop. All the horses were well picked out for each person. Was the best thing about my holiday. Have fun.

Hi, we went to the Lakes in the summer, we stopped windermere and also up the coast from Broughton in Witherslack. Places to eat hightly recommended - The Derby Arms, Witherslack and The Strickland Arms, Sizergh. We mainly cooked ourselves - got a Tesco delivery - saves you having to worry about getting cleaned up after a busy days walking! Walks wise we prefer quiet so we just went to tourist info and brought a map of wals and chose from them - there are so many to choose from. Steer away from the local nature reserves incl Walny island as most dont let dogs in except one we found down by Millom/Duddon Sands though cant remember name. We found a lot of nice beaches that area too - just dont look for signs just head towards the coast and have a look - they are completely uncommercialised down that area so you just have to find them by looking! Have a fab time - Kendall definitely recommends the beaches!

I went to the Lake District in Feb and it was lovely! Stayed in a hotel about 10 minutes from Winderemere, quiet far away from the centre / shops, very quiet, which would probably suit for the dog walking! :)

Derwent water is good to go across on boat & dog friendly a lot of pubs are dog friendly too, infact we didnt find any that didnt allow dogs always a bonus as the dogs enjoy the pub as much as us.

Not many stop off places if you leave early found easier to get up m6
