The owner thinks she is around two so she is an old wee thing, but appears to be perfectly healthy otherwise.
Tried giving her all sorts of tasty things - carrot, boiled egg

Re: Critical care for hamsters?

Sorry for the delay in the update!

we tried diet for a while - didnt really work because she wasnt eating well. We tried glipizide and it seemed to work for a week or so and finally we did try insulin (but to be honest I wasnt too happy with this as even an insulin needle is huge to a gerbil) but only for 2 injections and I didnt want her to suffer so we pts. I think my vet was keen to continue to try and treat but I was more concerned with QOL.

I think out of the treatments we tried the glipizide was the most effective

(normal values for gerbils I seem to think we got through ?Edinburgh Uni) if it helps

I havn't got a diabetic, I was just intrested!! Don't see to many rodents in my place, so a gerbil with diabetes is ooooohh!!
just a thought but what is fluid intake like - I had a gerbil that went off its food, couldnt find anything wrong with it except its water intake went up - it was diabetic. Have used critical care mixed with a little baby food with larger furries before
