It is a root abscess and will need root filling - she said best option was to get the filling out asap and relieve some of the pressure which she has done but because of the infection the local wasnt really that effective has been packed with an antibiotic and back on Sunday morning for the next stage

really not sure if it feels any better at the moment is a bit numb but throbbing like hell.

thanks for the input and advice everybody

Re: toothache!
If its a tooth root abscess - just about the only thing to take the pain away (in my experience!) is anti-biotics! My vet was happy to prescribe for me until the dentist could see me - would one of your vets be as obliging?
Forgive me if i'm wrong but isn't that illegal and can't he lose his license for doing so?? I don't recall vets going to school for human internal medicine!

honestly i would altern warm and cold compresses and just try to get to the dentist as soon as you can. Use paracetamol/codine and ibuprophen through the day but be sure you are eating something so you don't give yourself an ulcer! If it's unbearable then go to the emergency room and get some drugs until you can go to the dentist. I would not recommend clove oil as it can compromise the skin if you are to need surgery. The healthier that gum is the better. I also would not recommend chewing or sucking on cloves.
