We had a stray dog come in with a pet protect microchip, when I rang the database to try and find the details I got thro to an answering machine and after trying a few more times with the same response I left a message and did not get a reply till 4 HOURS LATER!! By which time the owner had collected the dog! If that was my dog missing I would not want to be searching for an extra 4 hours when the dog could be in safe hands but unable to contact you! Still its better than having no chip I spose!

Hey Guys,

Does anyone how I can get these microchips for 99p? I need them to microchip some animals where I study Zoology so the post microchip procedure is irrelevant to us but they'll save us a fortune, currently the guys are paying £4.50 a chip. Also do you know if they can be read by an AVID reader, as far as I know all readers read all chips but I had just not heard of AVID before.

I bought a box of these as they were so cheap. then found out they charge the client to register every year and phone number to locate lost animals is completely different to our petlog one.

yeah thats why we had a box full of them because there only 99p each! thank god we've only got 8 chips left to use. the website to register them is just shocking! a child could of made it better and work! hehe! it just doesnt work properly and all the info they ask for on the form, theres no where to register it online, like no where can you put in the colour of the animal. so when the owner gets the official form back it says colour______ so it looks like we havnt bothered to fill it in! grr!

the chips themselves are actually very user friendly, I like them! shockingly! hehe! its just there website and customer service is a waste of space.

My boss has just brought a whole load of these coz they are so cheap, but i've heard bad things about the database so i'm dreading it!!

i wasnt upset about the microchip coming out because these thing happen, i place chips the same technique as you, one of the vets chipped him, I didnt want to hurt my little boy. even tho he was under ga at the time! hehe!

its just the whole faff afterwards trying to get his new number registered and them being totally useless and being told the number had been changed when it hadnt.

hopefully 1 day he'll be registered! hehe!

The chip coming out isn't really as uncommon as we think, it's happened to me a few times (I use a different comany brand) so now I grab the skin around the implanter and hold. I usually feel the chip on the end of the needle I can then make sure it remains under the skin and feel it pop off the end into the animal. *note - I am not saying you blame this on the company, it is just a suggestion to help keep them in place

I have not used the site, so can't comment on it. The microchips should be able to be traced to the place of implantation, have used this with my chip comany before (the paperwork had not arrived with them yet, I contacted the clinic that implanted it, animal owner traced!) I don't know if pet protect can do this service as well.
