and it looks like for some sectors the new qualification will still be called an NVQ

The last goverment did not want to fund the NVQ any longer so I was told and this is why the NVQ was changed to Diploma instead for SVNs and the NVQ's we discontinued in all subjects. We were told this at college but if I am wrong please correct me so I can let college know.

really?? - I dont understand this then, because many colleges are still offering NVQs to students (not in the same subjects granted) I thought this was all about funding?

While I agree the RCVS appears to be a bit slow with the NPL loggins it is not them who stopped the NVQ it was the last goverment and the cut off point to enrole on NVQ3 (they are seen as seperate awards) was the 1/8/10 at which point NVQ2 students didnt know if they had passed so have had to move on to the transitional course.

i have done my clinical coach training and my student has started back to college in september but she still doesn't even have and npl login yet!! instead are now desperately trying to get assignments done so not hanging over head, luckily (i think ) her college have been sensible enough to have set 10 assignments two weeks after her return to college. although this seemed bad to her probably makes some sense to crack on now, whilst waiting for npl. Is struggling slightly with getting the cases for some of the assignment luckily not due till february for marking though.

Also my student struggled slightly with what they wanted exactly from the assignements and on further discussion with her college basically the discussion part is the most important and rest should only be bullet points. They essential want her to pin point what could be done better in practice and reference relevant up to date data and research to back this up.

I am unsure how this will make her a better nurse as is just blowing her brain at the moment, and she hasn't been taught half the stuff she is expected to discuss!!

I also agree with the previous comment my student signed up for nvq not a stage higher which this essentially is. she is a very good nurse but struggle academically, and at the moment this is enough to put her off for life and not even started the npl yet.

Think RCVS should have allowed students already enrolled to complete nvq training.

I'm an assessor and totally fed up with NPL. Really feel this system was rushd through and not looked into enough. At the moment the NPL is taking me and my student longer then the old portfolio. Also there are extra things on the NPL that werent on the portfolio and as a small practice we are struggling to find some cases. Been told our student will have to go and work somewhere else to fulfil final things we havent got which boss isnt happy about as will leave us short staffed and are we meant to be paying her to work somewhere else?? Also we are being sent 2-3 hoyrs work weekly from college on top of NPL which is taking ages - we were told blended learning tasks would just be things we were doing anyway - maybe but we dont do all thse things on a weekly basis with deadlines attached to them., we do them when needed! Then this week we were told again by our college they were having a further meeting with RCVS this weekend and some of our work for NPL may not be valid - you can bring a system in then change it - plus our student signed up for NVQ not this!! Our practice will be seriously considering not taking any further trainees under this system :((

Why dont the RCVS trial things properly before they bring them in. I will be emailing them this weekend with my views an suggest everyone does the same so they may realise what a mistake it was rushing this through.

Ive got 2 massive ones and im tearing my hair out over it. Not getting any appropriate cases coming in, the format they want it in doesnt make any sense, getting hardly any time or support in practice. I want the old portfolio back! Really feel like giving it all up right now :(

We havent started them yet but they are time tabled in to our college.

Yes, i had 4 mini assignment type things to do over reading break last week. They were due in today. Had them on theatre practice, anesthesia, professional registration and the legal system.

Been told we weill be set more to do over xmas reading break and also easter next year too.
