i'm allergic to cats- always have been, i take cetirizine every day i get it on prescription but you can but it over the counter cheaply, tried homeopathic cat dander tabs years ago but you have to cut out other meds so gave up.when i'm really bad i sometimes take a piriton too(plus a glass of red = a great nights sleep!). Optrex do good allergy eye drops which are soothing, and you get the skooshy up your nose steroids too (beconase?)- (i tried them years ago without any real benefit)-wear a mask and gloves for clipping up it looks a bit dramatic but it should help. everyone thinks i'm mad being an "allergic " VN but once you get it under control the symptoms are more manageable.

I hope some of this ramble helps!

[/quote]

i did the nasal thing for a little while until it started giving me nose bleeds!!! rubbish

I also had adverse effects from the beconase, you would think someone had sprayed acid..... not the drug, but real acid up my nose, the burning sensation and pain was unbearable so I stopped using it.

yeah it messed with my taste buds too. i don't like nasal sprays in general i think they stop the problem temporarily and then when you stop using them all hell breaks loose!!! you end up feeling worse than you did before you started using them!

I too am allergic to certain breeds of dog, boxers and shar pei, staffs, but they dont bother my asthma(laughing sets mine off and thats it, nothing else) or make my eyes run or sneeze, it's just the coat touching me that brings me out in a rash.

I am however allergic to rabbits, and I get the sneezing, itchy eyes etc, sometimes I dont even need to be near them, just in their vicinity. I do have a rabbit of my own, and can only spend a short time with her before I start sneezing, again I think it depends on the type of rabbit, as some I am ok with, while others I am a mess. I know a couple of vets and nurses allergic to guinea pigs and one vet I worked with was like yourself, he was puffing on his inhaler when having to deal with guinea pigs, and his eyes were running etc.

I take my anti histamines if I think I am going to be exposed, and when I worked in practice took them every day.

I am sorry I dont have anymore advice, but if it's any consolation there are quite a lot of people who work in this industry who are allergic to certain animals.
