your right.. We had something similar recently when we opened a new practice. A local well-established practice sent a letter to every client we requested a clinical history for asking them to reconsider their decision to move and then listed a range of inaccurate facts (some of which were quite laughable). Many of the clients that received these letters brought them in to us saying it made them want to move more as they felt their intelligence was being insulted. Ultimately clients will make their own minds up!

I dont think that there is really a need to start bad relationships with new practices. We have some very good relationships with other practices which can be beneficial for both parties when it comes to borrowing meds or referrals/2nd opinions.

I hope all works out well eventually

Im sure it is part of the code of conduct for Vets and it does appear in the nurses code of conduct (sorry being blonde and cant remeber the name of the publication from the RCVS) as we were given this extract at college last year when studying ethics.

Hope this helps (and if I have got it all wrong then I appologise in advance as it was not meant to cause offence)
