Is anyone able to help me???
I am doing my first year diploma and have to write a report on an ethical consideration. After much debating-so many choices i have decided to do a report of operating on overweight dogs- in particular cruciates

Re: obesity and anaesthesia

Hi louise, you forgot, that if they dont have the surgery then they are more likely to rupture the other cruciate and end up off legs and probably pts.

The pain after the op is minimal compared to the pain they have pre op. My dog done her cruciate when she was nine, and was not placing the foot at all, but 5 days after surgery she was placing it, and I have seen some dogs placing the following day, albeit tentatively.

TPLO are the best bet as well for preventing onset of arthritis in the joint.

As for obese dogs and anaesthesia, the one thing you have to consider is the weight the dog should be for any anaesthetic drugs and not the weight they actually are, thus reducing the risks. But you prob already know that.

I remember reading something about the effects the anaesthesia has on obese patients and it explained the process by which the anaesthesia was stored in the fat......... I think!!!???? I will have a look at my notes tomorrow and see if that is right or I am imagining I read it

Re: obesity and anaesthesia

Thanks

i will read it before bed lol xxxx
