Your defo on a good wage for a 2nd year student. I'm on around that aswell (1st year student) I work in a referral practice though, the wage is competitive. Alot of the nurses I work with said they used to get between £9-10K per annum. In my previous job, the QVN was only paid £12k per annum, and she has 12 years experience as a QVN!!

Re: The dreaded question!
Have you guys on low salaries looked into Working Tax Credits? it may help. Plus, they pay it based on your previous year's salary - so if you worked part time the year before, were at college and only had a weekend job, etc and earn't circa £6000, you could find yourself being topped up by c£60/week. Plus, they backdate. I know various people who have done this.

[/quote]

The government are changing the way that tax credits are paid so wouldnt be sure if the wages that people are on in this post would be low enough?

That said, it does depend on personel circumstances, e.g household income, not just individual income. Ive always tried to apply for tax credits etc and get turned down

But you should apply for everything possible otherwise you will never know
