Usually the failed parts of the handwash task are either insufficient steps (many forget to lable the blood tube), the wrong choice of needle for a jugular sample, or the final step of the handwash, people rub the pads of their fingers where it should be the very tips of the fingers - this is a really common fault and usually the one that fails the handwash.

keep your chins up, i passed on my 3rd and final attempt and am now waiting to take one last paper for the 4th attempt, i havnt given up!!! you wont get mark sheets from RCVS i tried, all youl get are the mark sheets from your v nack, i also tried to appeal to rcvs 2nd time round as i too believed i hadnt messed up, but it aint worth it cos its your word against theirs so really wouldnt bother, it didnt get ne anywhere!! just really practise hard and get lots of different people to test u, good luck xxx

I had a friend who failed her practicals and was really angry as couldn't think of anything she had done and went and complained. Turned out she had made a big error with a calculation. I think practicals are so scary and mistakes are very easily made. I hated them! Best of luck to everyone for next time!

yes but i have heard from someone that the rcvs can send you the examiners notes as well rather than just the tick sheets that you get from the vnac. will let you know what they say x

That's a shame Eveleen The results require an overall percentage of the task to be achieved along with ALL the key steps. I think when students are learning the practicals, the focus is "don't forget the essential criteria" but then valuable marks are lost as small tasks such as disposal of waste, labelling, etc etc are missed which is frustrating - but usually down to nerves. When you feel you have finished your task, look around the table/station and check every item that is present and ask yourself "did i need that?" "do i need to do anything with it now?" after all, its your 6 minutes, don't feel pressured to finish the task early, if you want to use all of the time so you can check you have done everything like clearing up rubbish, filling in hospitalisation forms fully, then use it

The OSCE sheets showing the marked criteria are posted out from the VNACs rather than the RCVS, you should get them soon - good luck

Jesus! This all sounds really awful! I'm so sorry for you all! Good luck for next time! I'm now really worried about mine...they're not until Spring...but crikey! Looks like it's going to be really difficult and now we have to pass 8 out of 12 tasks...eek!! x

It says 39% of the people who took the exam who were on their first attempt fail! Think this is mostly down to nerves as I revised and practiced my a** off!

hiya, yer i got my letter today and its made me even more angry! I got 100% in bandaging all of my other %'s are 90 and above, apart from one yet i have still failed because i missed one essential criteria mark in 4 of my tasks. for radiography they said that i missed 2 foam wedges, didnt collumate the abdo and missed out the name label. I know that i done all of this and should have achieved 100% in that task! also they said that i did not put the units on my anaesthesia calculation + i did. RCVS keep these calculations so i am appealing against my marks. i am absolutely appaled that they can look at a candidate who is producing work of 90 - 100% yet they class me as incapable? their protocol is rediculous!

Oh well, we will sit again in december, £194 later and will get 100%'s then show them who's incapable! xx

I did mine at Harper Adams, and found it OK with a Sat Nav. The set up was good, and the examiners were really nice.

If you have a sat nav MYF is easy to get to, off the M3. Aldershot is a bit of a dump, but the college (and staff) is lovely

Anyone know which one would be the easiest to get to out of MYF Training & Harper Adams? They are both about the same distance from me so don't know which one to put down as my first choice.

I did mine at Bridgwater but that is not available so have to go somewhere in Aldershot now which is quite far from me. Ahhh nightmare!

i failed today too! i havent received my letter yet though so i dont know my %'s i just cant think of what i could have failed on, I can only think of a few little minor things but nothing major!
where did you sit? I done mine at harper adams

we will qualify some day!

I don't know much about the practical exams so I don't know what key step means, how are they marked? What are you tested on? I can't believe you didn't pass with 88%, that must have been a high pass rate!
