I work at a branch surgery and we are looking for hand help equipment for trimming rabbits front incisors.
Does anyone have any ideas/recommendations?
Any help much appreciated

Re: Rabbits Teeth

Thank you all for your replies!

The vet was thinking of a hand held burr of some type? Not sure if you get them or not! We have a dental machine at the moment but it can be quite tempramental and it is also taking up a bit of space so thought it might be worth investing in new equipment if possible.

Re: Rabbits Teeth

Wrapping bunnies in a towel - may be obvious, but I've seen a number of nurses struggle holding on to a big rabbit while its having teeth burring and bun is kicking everyone! Towel wrapping and burring reduces stress all round

Re: Rabbits Teeth
dental bur
The bunnies seem to tolerate the burr well-far better than the dark days of nail clippers. Makes me wince thinking of that!

Re: Rabbits Teeth

We use a diamond cutting disc on our dental polisher/burr handle. Works really well. We use either a wooden tongue depressor or a syringe for the rabbit to bite down on - this keeps the tongue & other soft tissue out of harms way.

You can get some nice rabbit dental kits from vet instrumentation.

We use our dental bur but if you need something hand held then I can only think of a dremel with a cutting attachment/disc - but care would be needed.....
