We do various offers...

If a microchip is done by a nurse rather than vet £5 off.

Puppy/kitten healthcare packages...a set fee for: 1st and 2nd vacc, microchip, one worm treatment, 6 weeks free petplan insurance, 10% off neutering.

Recommend a friend - person recommending gets £10, new client gets £5 (i think!).

On our website/in the daily echo every so often £20 off your first consult vouchers.

Free new pet health checks (only if they are coming in for a check, not if they know there is already a prob).

I think that's them all atm!

when we do mail shots who pays depends on if we have backing from any company.

Sometimes we run mail shots for our selves so we pay, other time it part of bigger promo so company pays.

ooh - katies post has just reminded me of another offer that i saw at a different practice lol!

if your pet had both 1st and 2nd vaccs with them, you got 20% off neutering and chip (if chip was done at time of neutering)

they had 20 min 1st vacc appts so plenty of time to tell clients about this lol!

just a question Noodle, when you are posting out mail shots etc, do you pay for your own postage or ask the drug company to pay / part pay?

we have just started offer for the month of march its buy one get one half price on any food (inc px food) merchandise, neutering, dentistry,and flea and worm products. seems to be going well at moment.

We normally do some diff promo each month, send out mail shots such as arthritis clinics, dry eye checks, senior pet checks, free cat neutering from Cat protection league. With each promo there is something to entice the client in. Sometimes if a company involved it might be free product (one year it was free metacam) or it might just be a free health check.

Last month we also did a new thing. we managed to pull from the rusty inards of the computers memory all the clients that had not been inthe practice for over 15 mnths and we called them to check if all was well and to inform them if their booster was out of date and as incentive we offered to put them £5 credit on their file. Not many took us up but we thought well even though they don't come now next time they need a vet it might be us as we were the caring souls who called them just for a chat about the dog!!!!

The other thing we do is offer an introduction incentive, if you introduce a new client the existing client gets £5 credit and so does the new client.

i have worked at a practice which pushes cheap vaccs/chips/neuters just to get clients in.... BUT they also really really push insurance! and their fees outside of preventative treatment were higher than other local practices.

they are the most affluent and large group of practices i have ever worked for (but they aren't a nationwide chain if you see what i mean), and their client base is amongst one of the lowest income (apparently - haven't checked).

when i worked for them they were just a first opinion place, but now do a lot of referrals, and have plenty of cert holders - so they must have been doing something right!

however, this is all from an svn point of view - i have no idea if their growth etc, has anything to do with their cheap vaccs etc policy..

Which vaccines do you use? Ours cost about £10 exc VAT - do you not charge for the vets' time then? Or is it just to get people in the door??

Vaccines cost about a fiver each from the wholesalers (excluding VAT!)

To combat the decreased revenue from the off-peak discounts, charge a peak-consult at your busiest times, maybe the same £1-2. This encourages people who can come through the day to avoid the busy evening surgery but you will find the people who work do not mind the increase because the evening surgery is to their advantage & there will be more appointments free for them!

I didnt even realise there was another one, I posted on this one then I saw yours Fi, but I couldnt understand where mine went too!! And I havent even started the wine yet!!

I posted on the other one, so I'll just say it again -

Discounts on microchips when getting them under GAs or with vaccinations.

Off peak discounts - offer clients a small discount (£1-2) to come into the surgery when its quiet. We typically found that the early afternoon appts coincided with school runs etc, and were much quieter by far. Offering this discount encouraged people to come inthen.
