I've just done my weekly search for sea-turtle-related stuff on Amazon (yes, I am tragic...), and was HORRIFIED to see a necklace made from turtleshell for sale (for a hefty £1330)

Have you seen this?

Revolting. I was going to do all my christmas shopping on Amazon this year- had a £150 shopping list on there! ....DELETE! I'll shop around thanks.

Re: Endangered sea turtle necklace on Amazon..

Well Amazon have agreed that is is not legit and removed it from their site after letters from my friends at Harvard law school

And an international anti-trafficking group have started investigations and have involved Italian law enforcement... win!

So I guess we shouldn't always assume that any established company like this will be whiter than white - remember, they only exist to sell shiny things to exceedingly well-off people who want something the neighbours dont have! Without concerned individuals checking up on things like this then anything goes...

Re: Endangered sea turtle necklace on Amazon..

Forzieri - upmarket and unlikely to sell something that isnt legit - I doubt they would risk their reputation on something sus

Re: Endangered sea turtle necklace on Amazon..

Really struggling to find any way of contacting Amazon, and the website claims it can ship in 24 hours, doesn't mention anything about certification etc.

It does say on one page that the material is sea turtle, and another page that it is tortoise, but suspect this is a translation glitch - "tortoiseshell" is the term that was used for sea-turtle products.

It is just some upmarket jewellery dealer... either way still makes my blood boil....

Re: Endangered sea turtle necklace on Amazon..

does it have a certificate of provenance to prove it is an antique? if so it may still be sold - bit like ivory.
