I broke down (major electrical problem) and got the RAC to take me home.

The RAC man crashed my car into my neighbours car writing my car off. His response was I had to go through MY insurance!!! No way!!! The police were no help either even though he left an accident without giving details.

Took me 4 months,threats of court action (neighbours insurance threatened to take ME to court as the car was mine) and plastered all over my facebook with pictures before they took responsiblity and paid up. What was a joke was they offered a courtesy car at the same time as finally paying for my car and the neighbours car... better late than never I suppose

My sister reversed out of her drive (in her brand new car) into a car that was parked...she went back into her house to write a note on a piece of paper with her details and when she came back out with it a min later the car was gone!

It really sounds like he was trying to have you over, particularly as he has suddenly said he'll accept a lot less and pay the rest himself rather than get quotes or prove the quote! 'Good' of him!

I take 2 spaces in carparks......... because I have had my car hit so many times....usually from people with baby seats in the back...never ever park next to a car with a baby seat.

Well done for being brave and calling!!

Someone pulled out into the side of me and didn't want to go through the insurance so asked me to get quotes, I did and no-one could do it for less than £500 so he decided to go through his insurance in the end!

I once reversed and brand spanking new courtesy car into a post, and the insurance had such a massive excess on it I had to pay £100 to get the dent sorted and painted by a mobile car dent repair company without telling the courtesy car company

Nightmare! you poor thing!

Check your car insurance, if you have legal cover on the policy they will advise you the best way to go with this, they are free for you to use if its part of your policy & obviously are experts so they will give you the best advice out of everyone!!

going through your insurance might work out more expensive though as you will have to pay excess which will prob work out more than the cost of the work to be done

i would ask him for 3 quotes in writing and then go from there

I think you probably could as you are the insured driver and even though you where not driving you should still be covered. Unless the insurance company have it in small print that you can't?

Maybe give them a call and see as they will get intouch with the guy and ask for a proper quote from the garage in writing. I know it may affect your no claims etc but it's either that or get fleeced. Let us know how you get on good luck

I drove into the back of someone at a roundabout once & dented her boot .. she got me 3 quotes and it cost me £199 & a box of chocs (that was for re-spaying the boot, new lock, and sorting out the dent!)

If it was going through insurance - then the insurance company would tell him to get 3 quotes.. I'm sure if you intend on paying yourself - then you can insist on 3 quotes too, and go with the cheapest. .. best of luck with it xx

No its not a classic car. stupidly I didnt get all the details of the garage so cant ring them and cant seem to find a garage on google in this area called that (unless he is travelling a long way.)

I didn't know I could claim through my insurance maybe I will ring my insurance in the morning otherwise I think I'm going to have to be brave and ask them to get another quote!

when i had just got my 1st car was going to turn into my mums drive which isnt the biggest and some idiot came zooming up behind me, made me panic and i overshot and hit the fencepost with my passanger side.....it was smooooooshed!!! thankfully managed to buy new wing etc for not too much so didnt put it thru the insurance, of course idiot who made me do it didnt even stop to see if i was ok!!!

Luckily I can laugh about it now but I felt awful at the time! I also get the mick taken out of me quite a lot for crashing into a roundabout. It was pretty stupid!

Is it a classic car?

Do you yourself drive and have car insurance? If so then go through your insurance.

Maybe try contacting the garage in question and pose as someone who wants the same damage repairing, this way if you get the same quote then you know its genuine. If not he's probably gone to his mates garage and they are milking it!

ask the driver of the other vehicle to get more than one quote? But dont forget if its a new car he will want the repair to look as good as new
