You've given me some really great tips guys! Whilst im waiting on the place being built i want to try and do as many different things as i can which will make me stand out and be appealing to them so that they will employ me. Before I moved house and changed jobs, I used to work in a majority cat than dog clinic and I loved it and really miss it. I looked on the fab website and saw the feline vet nursing course, its 9 months long and costs approx £395, i think id be really interested in doing it once i pass my exams and qualify.

Re: Cats Protection
If you want to get more feline specific experience that will be relevant to CP you could contact Ian M (on this site) as that man is obsessed with neutering cats - he even organises cat neutering trips overseas in his spare time so you might be able to get involved with that.

You can say again that Ian is obsessed with neutering cats!!! he has been for years!!!!

If feline medicine particularly interests you I think FAB run a two week free, expenses paid, work placement at Bristol Vet School working alongside the feline nurse (again, I might be out of date in my knowledge).
Unfortunately FAB have stopped this work placement in favour of the new feline nursing course

Aw. That is a shame. I always wanted to do that placement but the cost of getting my pets minded for two weeks was always too prohibitive. The price you pay for having a menagerie

Re: Cats Protection
Glad to help. You can always email them if you want to do work experience. Maybe they could help with temporary accom in return for a temporary extra pair of nursing hands. You have a lot to offer as a 2nd year too and if you don't ask you don't get If you want to get more feline specific experience that will be relevant to CP you could contact Ian M (on this site) as that man is obsessed with neutering cats - he even organises cat neutering trips overseas in his spare time so you might be able to get involved with that. Also, the local CP branches are usually keen to get extra volunteer members - and they have a committee post called something like 'welfare officer' (been a while so may have that title wrong!) and somebody with a vet nursing background woruld be ideal for that role. Would give you a fab insight into the work of CP.

If feline medicine particularly interests you I think FAB run a two week free, expenses paid, work placement at Bristol Vet School working alongside the feline nurse (again, I might be out of date in my knowledge). if shelter medicine interests you in particular then there are some fabulous american websites that can give you a lot of info. Plus, I think there is a series of free or very cheap (£10 rings a bell) of shelter medicine roadshows taking place this year. I think they are CP organised and there might be one in your area. Worth trying to find out more.

Good luck.

Re: Cats Protection

Thanks so much for replying. They were a lovely team to work for and, on the whole, I got the impression that CP looks after its staff well. I worked for them a few years ago though so. Ian M on here works for them as the neutering manager so it might be worth PM-ing him. My impression of them was they are very keen to utilise VNs in a variety of roles and they have so many different welfare-related jobs that you could stay with them for the rest of your career and never get bored. I'd go for it if you have the opportunity. Hope that helps.
