I've basically struggled with my weight probably for the past 5 or 6 years. I'm 20 now and it started during school. My lifestyle doesn't seems to reflect in my weight at all

Re: Feeling pretty disheartened...

Ive struggled with my weight since i can remember, currently trying to lose weight with slimming world which seems to be working so far.

Why not try following the principles of slimming world but without going to the meetings? So long as you are truely honest with yourself and dont forget that cheeky biscuit you had at break time. I need the meetings to stay on track but i have friends who dont and just do it themselves.

Im also trying to run at least 3 times a week, i hate it and im aweful at it but ive built up from being able to run for less than a minute! To now being able to run for 20-30 minutes, currently trying to train up for a 10k then a half marathon. Its good as you can just leave your house whenever you want and half hour later your back so it doesnt really take too much time out of your day, whereas i found with the gym i was always saying to myself it wasnt worth going for less than an hour and i didnt have an hour spare, plus the time getting to and from the gym itself.

Ive always found losing weight so difficult so i can totally sympathise with you, good luck

Re: Feeling pretty disheartened...

I struggle badly with my weight. Lost 5 stone at weight watchers but can no longer get home in time to get to the meetings. The weight crept up and I am miserable. The meds I'm on don't help.

I can't exercise as severe arthritis in my knee and ankle and just diagnosed with a squashed disc after lifting a 65kg dog with the vet.

My chocolate fix is skinny cow hot chocolate although been so down lately chocolate has reentered my life in a big way... joys of comfort eating.

My doctor put me on one set of tablets that worked fab but was discountinued as caused liver problems in some people!! Gave me a different pill but as I can't eat regularly they did nothing (some days I don't get a lunch break). Can't have a gastric band due to medical problems. I'm just slowly getting bigger and bigger.

I would love to go swimming but can't as I leave home at 7.30am and get home at 8pm. My weekends are spent either showing my dogs or cleaning the house.

Re: Feeling pretty disheartened...

hey I too struggle with my weight and have done for many years now, however i managed to lose 3 stone at slimming world (then moved house, changed jobs, didnt go back so put it all back on) I have re-joined and am doing reasonably well again

I take it you do different shifts each week?

I found 1/2 the groups in this area do a 5pm weigh in (no good) and the other half do a 7pm weigh in, usually you weigh in between 7 and 7.30 then they do the class (however you can go later you just wont get weighed till the end of class - usually 8-8.30 ish with mine.

Some groups also do a morning weigh in so could possibly fit in round late shifts.

You can go to different classes as long as you tell the one you normally go to that you cant make theirs and you are going to such and such;s class. it is all electronic now so they can chart your weight whereever you go!

Re: Feeling pretty disheartened...

yep really struggled a lot with my weight, ever since thyroid issues diagnosed in 2006. its hard but the only thing i found worked for me was cutting out stodgy carbs like potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. i was vegetarian first time i did this so it was hard, but found replacing them with things like chick peas, beans and other pulses helped fill the gap and i honestly don't miss them anymore. i snack on fruit but not bananas. what about walking? if you have a dog it kills two birds with one stone and it doesn't cost anything, it's also great to clear your head and forget about the troubles of the day, i mean a good brisk walk anything over 30 minutes each day so you can feel your heart pumping and work up a sweat. replace any obvious naughty things with healthier alternatives like low fat yoghurts, cut out sugar in tea, low fat sauces etc. i also try not to eat foods with a lot of 'crap' in them i.e. artificial ingredients, and prefer eating as much natural foods as i can - e.g. i would also buy real butter as opposed to a spread, but just use less. this is extremely important when it comes to hot chocolate, the best you can buy is clipper, it is low fat and without any crap but honestly is the best you can buy - and thats my treat, a mug of that each day, is my chocolate fix

losing weight is hard with health issues getting in the way but is doable
