Hey can I join the golden oldies too please.. I started as a trainee in 1977 and have been working ever since, no breaks so I make that 33 years- you get less for life!!! I definately feel old now working with 20year olds amd especially as my eyesight is going and I'm getting hormonal!!! Think I should be put out to grass but I cant afford it as being in this professsion you are constantly broke!!

I started at the Blue Cross in Victoria in 1973 at18yrs . Qualified 1976. Had a break and trained as an operating dept assistant and then kids for approx 6 years. That probably makes me the oldest one on here but prob not the longest serving. And I'm post menapausal ha ha!Sorry have just hit something on computer that has made this reply go large .Must do a computer course one day!!

I started in October 1975 and qualified in 1981 with no breaks.....scary thought!!!

Unfortunately for the very stressed and tired staff, it does not include operations or xrays. And the PDSA clinic I work in is not considered to be a busy one, in comparason to thosev located in the big cities, such as Liverpool or London, Newcastle, or Cardiff etc.

Started work in the animal care sector back in 1980, working for the PDSA. All these years later I am still working there as a RVN, so that makes me very insane, since the PDSA is so very busy these days (an average of 120 anuimals per day) which generates a huge volume of work!!!!! No wonder I work part time these days. I was also born in 1961 the same year the precursor of the BVNA was founded. Like to think I can still remeber some things, even though I am now menopausal and a little confused! The saying the more things change, the more they stay the same is so true!!!!. No kids so no break away from work.

1st job in practice started september 1984 - had a year out last year apart from a few locums and a bit of voluntary work and thought I would never come back

25yrs - in some ways it feels like yesterday and in others a lifetime

You've beaten me Chris......... Got my 1st job in a non-training practice in May 1987.... have taken 2 years out for travelling which makes 21!!!!!!! years..... Jeez! ... never worked it out proper before..... something to celebrate or commiserate???

Started working in 1974 !! Had 9 years out with my children. Therefore worked for 27yrs

Some of the practice went out the other week and I suddenly realised that I was 12 years older than the next oldest person and 24 years older than the youngest.... suddenly decided that perhaps I won't go the next time....... leave the youngsters to it..............

I began to feel old ,when all the new vets where young enough to be my son or daughter!
