If I were you, there is no way I would be signing any contract until they clarified exactly what expenses you are going to incur for them when you are paying your own fees. GEt it in writing exactly how much they are expecting you to pay back and what those costs are for and take it from there.

Re: contracts

Your practice is within their rights to put into your contract that you must stay a number of years post qualification providing THEY are paying for your college fees.

If you are funding yourself then they cannot state that you have to stay for 3 years to 'pay back your fees'. That's bizarre.
To state that they have to pay staff extra to train you is rubbish. If the company is able to train they should be paying their staff accordingly to do this - that is if they have dedicated team members who do this.

I would personally question them on this before you sign the dotted line. I would expect in any nurses contract that it would state that they have to stay a minimum of 12months post qualification. Longer if the practice pays.

Re: contracts

And if any other trainees then those costs would be less as you were not specifically only one. Are they having to pay anything to become a TP or anything like that? is it the cost of uniform of equipment you may need?

there may be costs to the practice you are not aware of? - it may be worth clarifying exactly what these costs are before signing a contract agreeing to them

Re: contracts

they claim it costs them as i need to be supervised and trained in practice, and they need to pay the vets and rvn's that are training me

Re: contracts

lol.. you beat me to it Kim!

Re: contracts

[quote user="horseyamy"]if i choose to leave during this period i must reimburse my employer for costs he has incurred during my training.
So what would you have to reimburse your employer if you leave??

To me it sounds like your paying for it all. I'd imagine if they paid for your training - fair enough you should pay back if you leave.. but your paying so can't see the problem - except If they want you to work for an extra 3yrs as qualified, then they should pay for your training surely?!

Re: contracts

Surely if you are paying for your own training then you could leave and have no costs to pay back!
