I need some advice as what to do! Feeling really confused.
I went for a job interview on Monday, cam out feeling like I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me and burst into tears as soon as I got into the car.
If they have such a problem with recruitment agencies, why did they use one?! Weird! It cost my boss £800 to "buy" me off the agency. I have no idea why employers still continue to use them, especially our old favourites- we all know who they are!

[/quote]

The practice may not have used a recruitment agency. At my old practice when we were advertising for staff we were contacted by an agency on behalf of a candidate who wanted to apply.

The candidate had gone through a recruitment agency herself, as a practice we were reluctant to go through the agency as we calculated that if we offered this girl the job she would lose over £3000 of her salary!!!! Obviously the practice wasnt going to up her salary to compensate for this so she didnt lose out on money, so instead of a fairly decent wage she'd be earning a pittance.

Also if we continued to employ her past the first year the practice still had to pay the agency for however long she remained employed in the practice!

Seemed crazy to me and after finding out the percentage they take i would avoid agencies at all costs

If you felt uneasy i'd say try some other places out, dont take the first thing that comes along as i can guarantee that something better will come along and it will be a place where you can just tell you will fit in!

P.s there is nothing wrong with going through a recruitment agency either, they are there for a reason

Interviews are stressful at the best of times, but dont sell yourself short! hold out you'l find a place that fits!!

Re: Unsure of what to do

RSF - for what it's worth my pennisworth!!

Nurses are in short supply so if this is not the job for you then all is not lost. In addition I would wonder if that is how the interview left you feeling (when surely most people are trying to impress applicants) then I wonder what the reality of working there might be like. Hang in there, good luck with your practical and if all is miserable and you don't want to stay where yo are then locum for a bit. I know lots of just qualified nurses that did that and were all the better for the process - you may also find a smashing little gem that may ask you to stay.....

Re: Unsure of what to do

I think I will problem turn down the job. I feel that I would prefer to be in an established practice being as I will have only just qualified.

The way I see it is that I have a job that pays my bills and rent (just) so I think I will hang on till I find some thing that I feel happy taking.

Thanks, you've said what I was thinking,

If you are in 2 minds about the job then to be honest I would go with my gut feeling and turn it down.
