The first 2 years will be theory and written exams and the third year practical plus practical exams (osce's). So far its all going well. the NPL is about to be up and running, and i have someone from our college coming to the practice to show me how to use it today. The NPL is much simpler than the portfolio, it involves less paperwork and less work and time all around.

We managed to get both students funded with DART, the practice still has to pay exam fees and registration fees.

The only negative i have is that its 3 years instead of 2 to qualify, quite a big thing, but will be worth it in the end.

Re: The new Veterinary Nursing course.

I just started the new course In Bridgend, and have a fantastic TP too.

Although I have no fees to pay, including Reg, I get no help what so ever and not paid in our placements. I had just left Uni doing Marine Geography so I got used to students loans to survive on. But infact on this course I am using more petrol than I did getting to uni as my practice is 40mins away, and my college is 45mins away in the opposite direction. Cant win really.

I desperately need to find a weekend job, but truth be told I am finding it difficult to stay awake after my practice work, god help me working 7 days a week :/

There should be some sort of way allowing us to have student loans in my opinion. This has cause many students to drop out already once they realised the costs... and sadly more will have to make that same tough decision soon too.

But I still have to pay my £195 registration fee to the RCVS & I'm not sure on the exam fees yet at my college. But on my VCA last year I had to pay both the exam & tuition fees myself because I already had a level 2 qualification.

Sorry I confused you a little sharon from what I understand is you can now for year 1 train in either a Training practice (TP) or for those practices that dont meet all the requirements to be a full TP & they miss a few of the criteria or want to train students then they can become an auxillary training practice or an (ATP) hope this helps x

Re: The new Veterinary Nursing course.

[quote user="SharonSP"]

Thanks...I interpreted it slightly differently as in.."you can train in a practice that is a non-tp", but obviously the aTPs are just satellite centres and you can train in these as you have said.

Re: The new Veterinary Nursing course.

woooooo! go you!

I could have really done without the stress of trying to find a new place to work! As far as I'm aware, all the TPs will know of the changes, following various RCVS meetings, etc.

I start college Monday, I'm excited, shame I've had such a rubbish day at work today!

Re: The new Veterinary Nursing course.

As far as I am aware, you can train in an Auxiliary Training Practice but you will have to complete certain parts of the training in a normal TP that has the proper facilities.
