At the end of the day it is 'just a badge' but one i am very proud of to have in my drawer, and i will never sell it, to me it has more senitmental value.

How many jobs have you been interviewed at that have requested to see your badge or RCVS certiicate??? i can honestly say not one of my interviews.

If a practice it ust relying on that to prove they are a VN then the practice it pretty low, and to be honest joe public don't even nderstand the badge and couldnt careless, which is very sad.

I don think there is a law stating the VN badges can't be sold on, mine has my name on the back of it. so no one else could use it anyway without causing obvious damage. Just because some one buys a badge doesnt mean they are going to try and be what t says... i have my grandads military badges so in no way am i going to try and get into the military.

I know it is a raw nerve on here but really what can you do? they will just find another place to sell them!

I didn't have a reply from the seller, but I did have quite a few emails from ebay HQ about them investigating it.

It's not listed anymore, but I don't know whether that's cos it's ended though...

On the old forum this came up a bit (Seems like the bidding of VN badges must have decreased in the last couple of years!) and I think the majority were selling from collectors, with maybe 1-2 being sold from VNs who weren't working in the profession and didn't need their badge.

I don't mind badges being on there as like mentioned there is more to the qualification than the badge itself. Practices should be more vigilent though to check VN credentials rather than just go by the badge-it only takes two minutes to check listing/registration status online!

Apart from that I didn't think l was good enough then and l still don't feel l am worth sticking up on a wall. Same reason l hate having my photo taken but can pose nude for artgroups.. nude the artwork could be anyone photos .. yup that's me a FLUF

I often forget to put my badge on.

I very rarely use the letters after my name

Brian caught me throwing my vn certificates in the bin when they arrived as l couldn't think what else to do with them. He wanted to put them up, l glared so he put them into a file... from then on all certificates l got for cpd etc l gave to him. I suppose l shall have to keep the blasted things myself now or he is going to bug me over it.

Yes the qualification is the important bit, but c'mon, we all like to have something solid to show for the blood sweat and tears of qualifying! The badge means a lot, and it is disheartening to see one being sold on Ebay.

As for them not fooling vets...... a practice I know of hired a 'qualified' VN who promptly depleted their stock of buprenorphine.....intra-nurse! Turned out she wasn't even an SVN, let alons a QVN

Thankfully 99.99999% of nurses are honest, but there is always that one....

So a VN badge in the wrong hands can cause trouble sadly

I've got to agree with Sal. It's really not that bad. I feel quite flattered that somebody (if they're a collector anyway) wants it. I can't wait to get mine and I'll have more satisfaction from it knowing i earned it (if it is a fraud bidding for it). Like Sal says...the badge alone won't fool the veterinary people...

Yes, it is fine for you to express your opinion also, I have no problem with that. The badge is most definately NOT the most important part of being a vn for me, I love my job regardless of whether I wear the badge or not. It just makes me feel as if the badge is worthless and I don't think this is the case. A lot of people work hard for them and display them proudly, so I don't think they should be avaliable for the general public to buy. Just my view on it that's all can't agree with everyone. I didn't think I had called the seller insane, or silly, just the decision to sell a Veterinary Nurse badge that's all.

I completely respect your right and others to express your opinion - I dont know what you hope to achieve by it but I respect your right to express your opinion nevertheless. If the most important part of being a VN is being able to wear a badge then maybe I am in the wrong job?, because being a VN to me means a lot more than that.

Without knowing the circumstances of how this badge came to be for sale in the first place you have branded the seller/owner as being insane or silly - they may be neither but thats what you and others have decided.

VN badge for sale on ebay - so what ? if somebody wants to sell it thats their business. You might place a high value on your badge but thats your opinion and the one for sale isnt your badge. Its the owners choice not yours to make, in the same way it is if people are awarded a medal and decide to sell it to raise funds.

This has happened at least 3 times before and my opinion hasnt changed. Being a nurse isnt just about being able to wear a bit of tin like a 'sherrifs star' it doesnt magically make you a nurse and I am sorry if practices are taking on people on the basis of a bit of tin without checking their credentials in the register (which is easy enough to do - you can do it online really really quickly) if they cant be bothered to check then I have to say more fool them. There are better things to be wasting your time on

I have seen several of of these on ebay before. It's really dangerous, don't these people understand!!! It makes me furious.
