Thanks for update - sorry to hear she lost another pup but its a miracle that even some are mananging to survive. You must be doing a great job looking after them all, can't wait to see some pics of her and pups when they are fit and healthy!

Omg!! I got a tear in my eye why would anyone mistreat an animal like that is beyond me!! Sorry to hear you've lost 2 pups :( Sal got a point - any nutrition she takes in goes streight out again to her pups.. hand rearing them will give mum a better chance of weight gain, and pups will still get fed.. only downside is it's very demanding. , but still.. thats why we do what we do

I agree with Sal. Had a very similar situation with stray cat + kittens, only they were already born when she was dumped. It sounds like you have some willing helpers, could the pups be broken up into a couple of groups so they are with siblings and hand reared. Mum needs rest, nutrition and medication without the added demands of lactating and keeping kids in line! As we know this is the most demanding time in any mums life (healthy humans included! ) I'd give it a go, I'm sure she'll pick up then.

I know I wont be popular for saying this - she would probably gain weight and get on a lot better if she wasnt feeding puppies. If needs be hand rear them it would give her a better chance.

Aww sorry to hear you've lost some pups. But you guys are giving her and them a fighting chance. She's ended up in a good place now, god poor thing what she must have been through in her little life doesn't bear thinking about

Sadly not going so well. 2 pups died in the first 12 hours - not surprising as they on average came in at 90g weight. Two are in intensive care having 30 min feeds, but not over optimistic. The other 3 are still with mum - she is producing some milk and they are feeding from her well, with hourly supplements. They have gained a couple of grams over the day. Mum doing OK - but trying to get weight on her is a struggle - she has only gained 0.3kg - on 8-10 meals a day of RCW Recovery diet, JW puppy sachets and dried biscuits, and chicken. Any advice on weight gain tips during lactation appreciated.

X-rayed her today to check no pups left - found old poorly healed femur fracture and air gun pellets in abdo. Cannot understand what kind of shit bag would do this to a animal. Wish we knew who it was. They should tortured in the same way they have abused this poor little dog.

Had 7 tiny pups at 2 am this morning - in my wardrobe! She and they are fine. She will need help with feeding them so thankfully have a team of eager nurses willing to help out.
